Student Looking for Child Based Summer Job

I am an enthusiastic student nurse that is looking for a fulfilling summer job. I love working with children, hence my choice of degree.

Previously, I have worked at a riding school from ages 11 to 16 years of age helping in lessons, instructing, and general yard work. Here I learned lots about heath and safety especially while working with children to adults; including those with additional educational needs. I also learned teaching techniques and a respect and love for being a hard and passionate worker.

I then volunteered in my high school as a one on one mentor, being responsible for younger students with mental health issues. I did this for two years and learned responsibility and communication skills. I also, learned a lot about my own capabilities, knowing when I can handle something and when a more experienced person is best suited to handle a situation.

In this two year period I also shared a year 8 form group (ages 12-13 years old) with a friend and was an acting teaching assistant in a year 8 additional educational needs English group. These areas helped me learn how to work with large groups of children and be firm yet still caring to get the best possible results out of them. I also learned how to adapt my communication and teaching styles to those who's needs are different to other children.

When I finished school I then volunteered at a riding school in Spain that specialised in rescue horses. This helped me learn responsibility, as I was teaching and lead ride of a group of clients up into forests and mountains and needed to be confident in case of emergency.

I then went on to be an au pair in Switzerland. I cared for a 7 month old and 2 year old every day for almost 6 months. This taught me many skills including living abroad by myself, the responsibility of looking after and positively disciplining children, and working with a positive attitude at all times.

Since starting university I have been on nursing placements working with children of different ages. On my placements I have learned the importance of working as a team, working safely and effectively, and that being passionate about my work is incredibly important.

I am hoping for a position where I can put all these skills I've learned to use in a positive environment.
