To Whom It May Concern:

A year ago, I dedicated a year to volunteering for communities both locally and abroad. As a volunteer, I devoted my time to assisting sustainability improvements in the countries of Paraguay and Argentina. Working in developing countries opened my eyes to the drastic impacts of the environment, and the importance of addressing climate change in the workplace in order to protect both the planet and its people.

I volunteered for refugees in the Dallas/Fort Worth area through the nonprofit organization, Gateway of Grace. Here, I assisted new refugees in the area with home and job searches, English as a Second Language classes, among other tasks. For example, I coordinated the social media outreach for the organization’s Thanksgiving event in order to find donors, and successfully execute the event. I also assisted the nonprofit with writing the newsletter, and organizing and distributing donations for the refugees.

My passion for sustainability pushed me to help the local businesses in Buenos Aires and Torres, Argentina. Volunteering for Greenpeace Argentina gave me the skills to work productively and efficiently in a team, while also being prepared to take the lead when necessary. With Greenpeace, I helped introduce new alternatives to local business owners, regarding products and marketing strategies in order to increase sales while also preserving the environment. I also assisted in the research for upcoming campaigns, events, and political outreaches.

After returning to the U.S., I began attending Texas State, involving myself in organizations such as Zeta Tau Alpha, the Environmental Service Committee and Supporting Women in Geography (SWIG). I work closely with these organizations in order to ensure the Texas State campus and its students are living as sustainably as possible. As Treasurer of SWIG, I manage the funds for the student-led organization. I assist in the executive decisions and planning for events including outreaches, fundraisers, and more.

My passion for sustainability, coupled with my experiences both abroad and locally, have prepared me to be a hardworking, driven, and accountable professional. I am more than ready to take my experiences and my studies from Texas State and apply them in Texas and beyond.
