Scientist, Writer, Editor Looking to Expand Writing Career

I am a writer, editor, and scientist interested in a career within writing and research. My academic and extracurricular activities have set me up as an independent worker, with skills in both writing and editing, as well as in fundamental research. I am currently a Biology PhD student at the California Institute of Technology, where I am working in the lab of Dr. Marianne Bronner working on a thesis within developmental neuroscience. I received my BS in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology in 2016 from University of Connecticut. While there I conducted two independent research projects within the lab of Dr. Janine Caira, one of which resulted in a first author publication within a scientific journal (Koontz & Caira, 2016). My work in the sciences and academia has given me skills in time management, individual project management, and independent research. I am also currently a Senior Editor and content writer for Caltech Letters, a student-run science communication platform. I have published numerous articles on science in both Caltech Letters and on Massive Science Consortium. I hope to increase the scope of my content writing my picking up projects that expant my focus to include business, literature, philosophy, travel, etc. so that I can build my career as a writer further.
