Ryan Koo's Resume

Ryan fell in love with music as a sophomore in high school when he discovered karaoke at a friend’s birthday party. This newfound love gradually developed over time as he joined his high school choir and eventually the award-winning Chamber Singers at Mt. San Antonio College where he received his Associate degree in Music. At Mt. SAC, Ryan was able to take advantage of various opportunities such as serving as the student director of Concert Choir, performing with the Chamber Singers at the 2013 National ACDA Conference, and becoming the recipient of the Harriet Genung Music Scholarship and Puente Hills Concert in the Park Scholarship award.

After receiving his AA at Mt. SAC, Ryan transferred to Biola University where he received his Bachelor’s in Music Education (Choral Emphasis) and a K-12 teaching credential in Music. At Biola, Ryan was also able to take advantage of various opportunities such as serving as the student director of Men’s Chorus, performing with Chorale at the 2016 Western Division ACDA Conference, and serving as the president of the ACDA Student Chapter where he was able to find funding for 10 chapter members to attend the 2017 National ACDA Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Ryan is currently working as a full time choir teacher at St. Genevieve High School in Panorama City, CA while finishing up his Master’s in Choral Conducting at Azusa Pacific University where he is on a full tuition assistantship scholarship. He also serves as the Music Director at Northminster Presbyterian Church where he started the NPC Music Education Initiative, an initiative which recruits local aspiring music education majors to gain conducting experience through rehearsing and conducting the choir at NPC. This initiative was started in response to the lack of conducting opportunities found in college music programs.

As a conductor, Ryan has recently performed the Schubert’s Mass in G at Northminster Presbyterian Church and selections from the Durufle’s Requiem at Hollywood United Methodist Church where John West serves as the organist.
