SKILLS & ABILITIES

Tutoring and Educational Programs
For my employment at Langsford Learning Acceleration Center, I am trained in two different tutoring programs created by the Lindamood-Bell Company for the company’s primary focus, reading and spelling: the LiPS program and the Seeing Stars program. I am also trained in three other Lindamood-Bell programs: the Visualizing and Verbalizing program for reading comprehension, On Cloud Nine for developing math skills, and Simply Write for the development of writing skills. These programs target different issues for struggling readers and spellers, including identification, comprehension, fluency, and phonemic awareness. Along with implementing the program, I have learned how to adapt to the needs of students, including needs reflecting their respective ages and their developmental or physical needs.

Organization and Time Management
Employed in all aspects of my education, professional, and personal life. I pride myself on my meticulous organizational skills, especially creating order and attention to detail. Time management has been essential for all my past positions, especially as a one-on-one instructor of students with a range of needs that can change daily.

Sales Experience
Through my past employment experiences, I have worked in several different outlets of sales. These jobs allowed me to develop a strong connection with the customers, furthering developing my overall communication skills. I also developed a strong sense of detail and execution of desired tasks, especially at Justice.

Research and Analytical Writing
Employed through various research papers during my collegiate career; including my Senior Thesis Paper (The French Lieutenant’s Allusion). During my Master’s Degree program, research was executed at a higher, professional level that included subject matter from various fields of study ranging from literary theory to linguistic study (Page and Screen: An Analysis of Pride and Prejudice, The Pastoral of H.D.’s Sea Garden, A Critique of Patriotism: An Analysis of Who Would Have Thought It?, and a linguistic analysis, Complications of Medical Language for Lay People).

Presentations
PowerPoint; throughout my collegiate career, I have given no less than 40 presentations (group and solo) in front of my peers and staff members in a range of topics. I have lead class meetings on specific topics in each of my graduate courses, covering topics like poetry, Shakespeare, and American minority literature.

It is in this moment that the independent nature of Jane reemerges to the reader, the self-assured character that had left Rochester in order to be true to herself is resurrected in the wake of St. John’s control. St. John does not ask Jane to marry him, but tells her, claims her to become his wife, “God and nature intended you for a missionary’s wife… A missionary’s wife you must – shall be. You shall be mine. I claim you – not for my pleasure, but for my Sovereign’s service” (3.34.390). The deliberate use of “claim” and the possessive language St. John uses further emphasizes that he views Jane as a commodity and not as a human being of equal merit. To further establish this novel as a feminist work and establish Jane as a feminist character, Jane proposes a compromise, she agrees to go with St. John to India as long as she can go “free” from the shackles of being his wife.
- from a Feminist theory analysis of Jane Eyre

The independent research objective is to establish that the average person, represented by the survey participant, would benefit by the use of plain language used by medical practitioners. Overall, the majority of survey participants did confirm that non-medical language used by medical practitioners would be beneficial. The goal of this research is to emphasize how a lack of understanding can be detrimental to one’s health. If a patient gains a better awareness of their own medical history and practices, I believe that the patient can become better agents of their own health.
- from a linguist analysis and research report on medical language used with the lay person

Scholars have addressed the complex nature of England’s role in the colonization of countries across the world, analyzing through different lenses and theory practices. Ania Loomba defined colonialism as “the conquest and control of other people’s land and goods”, but as we know – it was more than that (1101). Scholarship and cultural archives parallel the dynamic between the colonial power and the colonized country to a parent-child dynamic. England is the dutiful parent that raises the child/colony from their infancy, helping the colony advance, with some struggles along the way – which could be equated to adolescence. Once the colony reaches adulthood, it “declares itself independent; just as a son who has grown up to manhood, leaves his father’s house, and takes up a business to gain his own livelihood” (Eldridge 1093-1094). But when England colonized a country, it was not an infant – but a functioning civilization with their own customs, albeit not as refined as England’s.
- from a research and linguistic analysis on the effects of colonialism exhibited in English literature, written in the framework of Postcolonial theory
