Work Experience

? Research Assistant at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs - (June 2019 - September 2019) - Under the direction of Professor Weisburt of the Public Policy department and Professor Goncalves of the Economics department, the research sought to better understand the underlying factors that impact police decision-making and public trust in police. Our lab was primarily interested in understanding how interactions with the criminal justice system affects individuals, families, and communities. Our most recent project focussed on the impact of ICE and how their recent policing measures were negatively impacting communities of color.

? Research Assistant at UCLA’s Gonda (Goldschmied) Neuroscience and Genetics Research Center - Silva Lab UCLA (August 2018 - June 2019) At Silva Lab, our laboratory is focussed on investigating the molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms underlying HIV associated cognitive development. We discovered the key neuornal and cognitive deficits caused by HIV could be prevented by manipulations that decreased function of the CCR5 receptor, a known target for the virus. Through our studies we seek to better understand the mechanistic underlyings of the biological processes responsible for cognition and memory. At Silva Lab my roles and responsibilities included, but were not limited to: mice dissection of the pituitary, thyroid, protein isolation, Western blot, immunohistology, immunostaining, and data preparation and presentation. Overall, our lab’s results demonstrate that CCR5 plays an important role in neuroplasticity and memory, and indicate that over-activation of this receptor contributes to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorders. My time at Silva Lab was one of the most amazing experiences I have had the pleasure of being a part of, and I am very thankful for all of the opportunities my lab team and mentors provided me for growth and inspiration.

? Anaheim YMCA (February 2017 – January 2018)
At the YMCA I was a Youth Sports Coordinator. This means that I worked at elementary schools and was a coach for numerous sports. The program strives to focus on kids from all kinds of neighborhoods having the equal opportunity to engage in sports and extracurricular activities. The program is a great way for kids to stay involved in productive activities and stay away from bad influences.
I genuinely enjoyed my job here because I get to coach kids in sports I’ve grown up playing myself. The job has fine-tuned my communication skills because on a daily basis I interacted with kids, parents, other coaches, and staff. I’m a people person so I really enjoy it.

? ROP Pharmacy Tech. Internship (March 2016 – June 2016)
As a pharmacy tech, I am able to take a vital look at the inner workings of a pharmacy and patient service outside of a hospital setting. This gave me a variety of experience working with diverse populations of all age groups.
I definitely enjoyed my experience and everyone I was able to meet at this internship but it further solidified for me that I wanted to pursue medical school over pharmacy school.
