Girl Scouts Gold Award 2015
The Gold Award is the highest Girl Scout honor awarded. I created a project called Backpack of Smiles.
Wrote over three hundred letters and mailed/ hand-delivered them to local stores and neighborhood homes asking for donations to fill backpacks with books and toys.
Presented my project at several Girl Scout meetings and School meetings.
I made posters advertising my project and hung them in several locations throughout my highschool.
As I received items handwritten thank you notes were sent acknowledging their donation.
Over 120 hours of service was accumulated over several months to put together over 150 backpacks for my project.
My backpacks were hand-delivered to a hospital for pediatric patients.
My backpack reached as far as helping a child from Brazil and my Gold Award was mentioned in the local newspaper.
Girl Scouts Silver Award 2013
My goal was to assist a local animal shelter that subsists through donations and volunteers.
Scheduled individual meetings with ten local pet stores and presented our project to them.
A meeting was arranged with the local store manager and I discussed setting up a booth in their entryway to collect donations for my Silver Award.
I set up a table and offered information on the local shelter I was collecting for.
People donated food and toys for dogs and cats.
After accumulating over 50 hours of service over several months I was able to donate over 400 pounds of food and several bags of toys to the local shelter.
