I am currently a cashier, working in a very fast-paced store right next to a mall.
The area is very diverse and I have become friends with people from all different walks of life.
Sometimes it takes a different way of thinking to be able to explain things to people, so I have to be very open-minded and constantly thinking on my toes.

I was a cashier, hired as seasonal help, then kept past the busy season because of my work ethic.
I had to be fast, friendly, and accurate.
In addition to ringing people up and bagging their items, I also had a list of tasks that had to be done by the end of the night, such as: sweeping the front of the store, taking care of the trash, etc., so I am able to multitask when needed.

I was a math tutor, helping with everything from Basic Algebra to Calculus III.
I had to interact with a lot of different people on a daily basis.
I had to learn to solve problems in a variety of ways and be open to learning new ideas.

I was in charge of cleaning all of the tools the orthodontic assistants used.
I had to be quick and watchful of what was going on so as not to slow down the office.
I had to make sure everything was done the way it was supposed to be. If it wasn’t done correctly, it would have been unsanitary and could have gotten the practice into a lot of trouble.

I am currently enrolled at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where I am enrolled in their Integrative Biology program and am specializing in the botanical side of things. Last summer, I was asked to join an ecology research lab due to my grades in a certain professor’s class. Since then, I have been doing research with plants (mostly invasive species) and how they impact the environment. After this, I plan on attending SIUE for my Master’s degree as well.

I graduated from Southwestern Illinois College with my Associate in Science and a 3.930 GPA.

Columbia High School
I graduated from Columbia HIgh School within the top 10% of my graduating class. Because of this, I was able to attend Southwestern Illinois College for two years, tuition free.
