Dear Sir/ Madam,
EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
I am pleased to submit my proposal to work as a photo editor. I believe that I have the requisite experience, knowledge, passion, and capability to be of help in your organization. I recently finished the visual journalism one year certificate at the International Center of Photography. The Program at ICP was an education in visual literacy and photo editing. Class discussions perpetually asked, �Which photograph resonates?� We determined if our images realized our ideas, and why some did not. Hours were spent editing and sequencing photographs on magnetic boards. This education bolstered my photo editing skills and storytelling skills to inform others of the world around them. I will bring this energy to helping produce stories in your organization. I look forward to putting to more practice my knowledge gained. Previously before ICP, I have been a freelance portrait and documentary photographer, my curiosity, and resourcefulness helped me create a career in photography and videography over the last six years.
My most recent project documents culture and identity in the African diaspora. Taken from the Yoruba word meaning "from across the sea,"�Tokunbo�is a documentary photographic project that looks at how�Nigerians in New York City preserve pieces of their culture in the diaspora. Through images of fashion, music, food, and rituals, it considers how this community maintains a sense of home even as it tries to keep up with American culture and live the American dream.�Photographed in the great "melting pot" of the United States, it is a local story, but one that touches on themes that affect immigrants from all countries.
I have provided photo documentary services to a range of clients; from international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) such as USAID, UNICEF, UNHCR, UNFPA, MARIE STOPES, WaterAid, NHEF, etc, to philanthropic organizations- Rotary International, Abuja, Tulsi Chanrai Foundation, etc. to fashion brands and studios like MILK studios NY, to create visual content for their look books, print, and online/social media.
My strengths are my passion, attention to detail, post-production skills, photo-editor skills in sequencing, curating, captioning and crediting, qualitative research, cataloging, handling and expediting permissions, great communication, and interpersonal skills, my ability to learn quickly, a team player, working with deadlines, experience in social issues and independent media, my cultural background and experiences are what I bring to the table with an open mind to learn and help further the brand.
