Martin Dufault CV

Dear Sir/Madam:

My name is Martin Dufault and I am interested in applying for the Sports Data Analyst position. I believe that my schooling and work experience would make me an excellent candidate for this position.

During my undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, I took numerous courses which have enhanced my skills related to human kinetics and health as well as furthered my understanding of these areas. These courses have given me the knowledge and skills required to thrive in a health related field. Throughout my schooling I was able to gain significant knowledge of multiple facets of an individual’s health. These facets include anatomy, biomechanics, psychology, psychosocial aspects of health, physiology, exercise physiology, diseases/illnesses, sports business, sports ethics and methods of research in the health field.

As part of the program requirements for the human kinetics undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa, I was required to participate in a field internship. Boxing4Health was the organization I chose for my internship. This organization gives group and individual workout sessions with clients afflicted with Parkinson’s Disease as well as seniors suffering from similar symptoms. During my time with Boxing4Health I was allowed to gain valuable experience by interacting with a range of symptomatic individuals who required exercises with specific modifications based on their personal needs. My supervisors had a lot of faith in me and gave me plenty of opportunities to flourish. Within a month or two, they had confidence in me to run exercises classes with high and low functioning clients as well as designing each exercise and their modifications. This was important to my development since I was able to lead a group of clients as well as interacting on a one on one basis with some of the clients during the classes to provide additional instruction and motivation. I enjoyed my internship because I was challenged to come up with new ways to stimulate the clients both physically and mentally during the workout sessions. The more workout classes I was put in charge of, the more I was able to engage with the organization’s clients. I was also given the opportunity to participate in a workshop on Parkinson’s Disease, which was lead by researchers and professionals who have significant experience researching this disease. I was also given the opportunity to assess mobility levels of new clients using the organization’s various tests to provide baseline statistics as well as re-evaluating current clients to track their progress.

For the last 7 years, I have been a transporter at the Ottawa General Hospital. These last seven years has given me a significant amount of experience engaging with a wide variety of patients with varying degrees of mental and/or physical impairments and limitations. The hospital environment has enriched my development and has exposed me to many situations in which I had to overcome obstacles and problem solve. On many occasions, I would be charged with the code blue or race pager which means I would have to potentially perform CPR on an unconscious patient in order to allow the medical staff to have the ability to focus on keeping the patient alive. Me and a fellow co-worker would also be in charge of transporting the patient to another location for testing or for admission to the ICU. These high intensity situations have been ideal learning moments to learn to remain calm and give directions to other staff to make things proceed as safely and effectively as possible.

I will be writing the certification exam for the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario on September 7th, 2019.

I believe that I would be a valuable asset to your team. I look forward to hearing from you and discussing the possibility of employment with you in the near future.

Yours truly,

Martin Dufault
