Dear Human Resources Representative,

I have attached my resume in support of my application. I am looking for a full time position in the city of Long Beach where I can work with the public, utilize my current skills and acquire new skills.

In August 2018, I completed a Culinary Arts program at Job Corps in Tulsa, OK. Shortly upon graduation, I began working at The Gathering Place also in Tulsa. At the Gathering Place, I worked the morning shift, which required gathering the prepared food from the refrigerator, turning on all equipment, ensuring it’s in proper working condition and sanitized according to standard food safety requirements. My cooking responsibilities included preparing hamburgers, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches, salads and pizzas. I also had to memorize expedited orders and prepare the food according to customer specifications. My most common daily task was building hamburgers based on customer preferences. As part of my ongoing training, I learned and practiced knife skills and de-boning chicken. Lastly, I was often called upon to handle additional related line cook responsibilities as needed.

From April 2018-August 2018 I also worked as a Dormitory Leader for Job Corps. My daily responsibilities included assigning chores to the dormitory residents and insuring chores were completed properly. I compiled a daily schedule for better organization and ensured the schedule was followed. It was my responsibility to make sure that all chores were completed and to provide correction to the resident as needed. I trained all residents on how to correctly complete chores. As the Dorm Leader, I was also responsible to determine discipline for the resident depending upon the offense committed and handled all paperwork for the residential dormitory.

At Job Corps I was also a part of the Student Government Association where I started as secretary but was later promoted to Vice President. This position entailed assisting in handling financial and budget responsibilities within the Job Corps organization. As part of my responsibilities I participated in weekly meetings and reported to superiors regarding school agenda, participant testing schedules, announcement of special activities, fundraisers and any new business. I also completed any additional administrative tasks as needed.

My passion is working with the public and in a fast-paced environment. With respect to my work habits, I am a dedicated, hard worker and have the ability to get along well with a wide cross section of the public and co-workers. I am comfortable assisting customers over the telephone as well as in person. I am also a team player, have the ability to multi-task and enjoy learning new skills on the job to improve my performance. I know that I can be an asset to your company.

I look forward to discussing my abilities in greater detail. Thank you for your time.

Mae Nicole Davis
