Police Accountability, Citizen Review and Judicial Processing Act 2020
In response to the protests around the country for police reform I have written this act to address the problems within our criminal justice system. The bill seeks to provide resources for police to have extended access to mental health services and more strict regulation on mental health of officers in active service. Additionally it lays out the protocol for inoperable body cams and the sentencing procedures for a failure to record bodycam encounters. More so it seeks to set up a publicly elected citizen review board at the local level over each precinct for decisions on protocol, firing, and reinstatement of service decisions. The bill also addresses the need to remove mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines for nonviolent offenders and diversify court caseload by giving courts the freedom to send cases to other districts with lower case loads. This gives defendants a better chance of their case reaching trial versus signing a plea deal. I am currently collecting petition signatures to get The US house of representatives to sponsor the bill.
