RESEARCH AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Nutrition Intern, CARE USA, Atlanta, Georgia, Jul, 2018 to date

• Duties:
1). Working with a collaborative international and transdisciplinary team to develop a proposal and implement an integrated nutrition intervention program to reduce malnutrition among women and children in Gujarat State, India.
2). Providing nutrition technical assistance towards the implementation of an integrated nutrition intervention program (Nutrition At the Center) in Benin.
3). Participating in the review of end line M&E reports of the Nutrition At the Center intervention programs across CARE Country Offices in Africa and Asia


Post-Doctoral Fellow, University of California (UC), Davis, USA, Mar – Jun 2018
• Project title: Pre-Conception Nutritional Deficiency, Epigenetic Mechanisms, Autism, and Other Neurodevelopmental Disorders

• Duties:
1). Worked with a collaborative international and transdisciplinary team to feasibility test methods for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder in children, in a local project site in Vietnam.
2). Participated in the designing of an NIH R01 proposal, investigating the effects of pre-conception nutritional supplementation on later childhood autism and potential epigenetic mechanisms.
3). Designed data collection tools, conducted data cleaning and management, data analysis, results interpretation and report writing.
4). Co-authoring a peer-reviewed publication on feasibility test methods for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder in children.


Doctoral Research Student, University of California, Davis, USA,Nov, 2015 -Dec, 2016
• Project title: International Lipid-based Nutrient Supplement (ILiNS) DYAD-G2 Follow-up study, Ghana

• Duties:
1). Developed research proposal, drafted study protocol, standard operating procedures, data instruments and manuals to assess neurodevelopment and physical activity of preschool children.
2). Trained field workers for data collection, supervised neurodevelopmental assessments and physical activity data collection of preschool children, and performed overall data monitoring.
3). Hosted and trained field staff from the MRC Nutrition Research group in Keneba, Gambia, on neurodevelopmental assessments of preschool aged children based on a battery of tests I adapted and validated in Ghana together with my research team.


• Project title: Development and adaptation of measures for evaluating the effectiveness of a nutrition intervention on children’s developmental outcomes in Ghana - A pilot study

• Duties: Principal Investigator May, 2014 -Sep, 2015
1). Developed study proposal and drafted ethical approval protocol.
2). Developed and adapted a battery of tests to assess the cognitive, motor and socio-emotional development of preschool children in Ghana.
3). Developed data collection instruments and manuals, trained field workers, and supervised overall project implementation.
4). Coordinated data collection, monitoring and maintaining records of study participants and other field activities.

• Duties:
1). Conducted training and standardization of field staff on anthropometric measurements, morbidity surveillance and dietary assessments for infants, children and mothers. 2). Coordinated field activities and logistics as well as grassroots networking among local hospitals and clinics in a semi-urban area in Eastern region, Ghana.
