Areas of Expertise

• Measuring the concentration of desirable chemical compounds in an unknown chemical solution using laboratory equipment (spectrometer and colorimeter).
• Identifying the characteristics of chemical compounds such as pH, temperature, etc.; using pH meter and thermometer.
• Hazardous waste handling and separation of waste based on chemical and physical characteristics including waste water and solids.
• Preparation of chemical regents and standard solutions based on mathematical calculations for specific analysis.
• Laboratory operation such as preparation, maintenance, and procedures for hazardous materials.
• Writing proposals, cost estimates, and reports
• Contaminated soil sampling, metal analysis, pesticide and organic testing, natural materials classifications and soil health investigation.
• Sampling methods and measurements of gas pollutant concentrations from industrial manufacturing processes (ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, volatile organic carbon, aldehyde compounds, PM10 and PM2.5).
• Documenting experimental results such as BET, XRF, FT-IR, XRD, EDX, XPS, FE-SEM and TEM for the characterization of different compounds in contaminated samples.
• Analyzing industrial solid waste quality, including ultimate and proximate analysis and measurement of calorific value.
• Ensuring the integrity of equipment condition and available chemical regents in laboratory.
• Applying environmental research regulatory guidelines such as TSCA and EPA.

Analysis Techniques

• Titration
• DNPH derivatization
• UV/Visible spectrophotometry
• Gas chromatography/Mass spectrometry (GC/MS) (limited)
• High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) (limited)
• Contaminated soil (metal analysis, pesticide and organic testing)
• Particle matter (PM10 and PM2.5)

Technical skills

• Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Calmet, Calpuff and Calpost software for air pollution modeling (limited experience).
• Greenhouse inventory based on IPCC guideline.

Relevant Work Experience

• Chonbuk National University, Environmental laboratory, Jeonju South Korea (8/2013-02/2016)

Collection of environmental samples (air, water and soil) from industrial and agricultural sites. Preparation of collected environmental samples for laboratory analysis. Preparation of standard solutions, chemical regents and chemical dilutions as a part of analysis procedures. Performing experiments and recording results and writing laboratory reports based on obtained results.

Other responsibilities:
On-site interior and exterior air quality investigation and sampling including PM10 and PM2.5 concentration levels, volatile organic compounds and odorous substances such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Measured the concentration of aldehyde compounds from the pollution source and surrounding areas, including agricultural and residential areas. Provided seasonal reports of gaseous pollutant concentration during soil composting processes.
Conducted research on additive materials in livestock wastes to reduce ammonia and odor emissions. Provided reports on the changes in pH, temperature, and ammonia emissions during the livestock waste fermentation period. Recommended additive compounds for soil to reduce the pH, consequently reducing ammonia emissions. Applied synthesized zeolite for the adsorption of ammonia during fermentation.

• Sang Mu So Gak Jang Co., Ltd., Gwangju, South Korea (8/2012- 4/2013)
Environmental impact assessment of a solid waste incineration power plant using biofuel as an energy source. Responsible for the sampling and measurement of different gaseous pollutants in the surrounding area and preparing quarterly reports. Used air pollution modeling software (Calpuff) to estimate pollutant concentrations within a variable radius from the company emission source (stack).

• High Temperature Processing Laboratory, University of Technology, Malaysia, Johor Bahru, Malaysia (1/2009 – 5/2010)
Projects included:
o Solid waste characterization, qualification, and quantification.
? Researched the possibility of an incineration power plant as an efficient method to reduce the amount of solid waste before disposal in the landfill.
o Monitored waterway vegetation and performed soil and water analysis related to the improvement of the site for a proposed conversion into a public recreation area.
