During my internship at ASHA, I created social media content for Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook. I also learned how to use Social Toaster which is a platform that allows an organization to send out emails containing social media posts for the audience to share on their personal accounts. My largest undertaking during this internship was working with their website, ------------. I edited grammar, reformatted the site, and used basic HTML to correct some functionality issues with their glossary. The purpose of the redesign and editing was to better reach our target audience: young people and sexual health educators.

Social Media Ambassador
CDC STD Prevention Conference - Washington, DC
August 2018 to August 2018
The STD Prevention Conference was an extension of my internship with NCSD. At this conference, I assisted with live-streaming the major speakers on Facebook and live-tweeting the events on NCSD's Twitter account. I also helped create the items given out at NCSD's booth during the conference and assisted the CDC's social media team by advertising their social media efforts during breakout sessions at the conference.

During my internship, I worked with the Communications Director on a variety of different tasks. I wrote blog posts, developed website pages on Wordpress, implemented SEO on the website using Yoast, and helped edit NCSD's weekly newsletter on MailChimp. I also used Google Analytics and MailChimp's internal analytics to monitor the effectiveness of our communications outreach. In addition to these tasks I also started the legwork to create a national sexual health communications network including most US states and territories. At the time I completed my internship, roughly 75% of the health departments in NCSD's membership had joined the email network. I also created daily social media posts for Twitter and Facebook and scheduled them using Hootsuite.

Athletics Instructor
Camp Starfish - Rindge, NH

For this job, I worked with children with special needs in a residential camp. I lived in the cabin with the campers. For each session their ages groups were 15-18, 7-9, and 10-12. I also planned athletic activities for the camp. These activities included baseball, flag football and soccer. I worked with a co counselor and planned activities with him in advance and on the day of. This job required me to work well with children, adults and peers. It also required flexibility and long work hours.

Granny’s Donuts - High Point, NC

Working at Granny’s Donuts was a multifaceted job. I was responsible for decorating donuts, keeping the shelves stocked, assisting customers with custom choices, creating coffee and smoothie beverages, and operating the cash register. In addition, I often took the opening or closing shifts which required me to set up all of the racks and decorate the first batch of donuts or clean the store before leaving. Cleaning duties included cleaning the restroom, taking out the trash, washing dishes, wiping down the counters, and mopping the floor. I was also trusted to lock up the store as I often worked alone.

For this job, I seated patrons and communicated with the servers to comply with the server rotation. I also took drink orders, folded napkins, and placed utensils. In addition, I helped servers with food running when the restaurant was busy.

For this job, I cleaned tables, took customer orders, and worked in a team environment to get all orders out quickly and correctly. As an ice cream parlor, I often made sundaes and milkshakes along with preparing soups and salads in addition to food running. This job required attention to detail and multitasking as we would often need to manage more than one task at a time including cleaning, preparing and delivering food, and managing take out orders.
