I believe the skills and experience I have gained as a laboratory technician along with my love of the outdoors, strong work ethic and love of learning give me the qualities needed to be a great employee and be an asset to your company.

As a laboratory technician at Purdue, I help research animal welfare to make more robust science in topics like improving husbandry techniques and studying how animal environment affects scientific results. The projects I am working on include rat lighting preference and mice ort production behavior analysis. A few of the things I do in the lab include; contributing to the preparation and maintenance of lab facilities and equipment, monitoring lab activities of interns to ensure safe use of materials and equipment, creating and maintaining a written Methods book of Protocol, conducting library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments, creating and maintaining spreadsheets for data recording and analysis, creating figures and graphs from data, and providing analyses and interpretations of results for review by my supervisor. I also wrote a poster for the Undergraduate Poster Symposium titled, "Nutrition in Mice. Does it Affect Grinding?" Laboratory Work has always been a large part of my life. I very much enjoy figuring out how things work, asking questions and learning. I work very hard to ensure everything I do is done right.

As a tennis teacher, I honed my interpersonal skills and learned to be diplomatic, through working with both the children, and their parents. As a Tennis Program Coordinator I learned self-sufficiency by setting up, lesson planning and teaching all tennis activities in the camp with no peers or leadership. I am always striving to learn new things and am happy to do whatever I can to help my employer, clients and fellow employees.

I am a very curious person and I have always loved science. I have taken classes in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. I have especially enjoyed learning about genetics. I have also taken several art classes including photography (which included dark room developing) and graphic design.

In my spare time I enjoy photography, tennis, swimming and camping. I go on photography trips as a member of the Purdue Photography Club and I go camping whenever I can. I have done several week-long camping retreats and trips, included rafting and canoeing. My favorite trip so far has been backpacking through Glacier National Forest. I love the outdoors and get outside whenever I can.

I sincerely hope you consider me for your internship position.

Thank you,
William Maniscalco
