• Curriculum development, inservice training, OBF
• Teacher Education collaboration with Kathy Frame, Director for National Association of Biology Teachers.
Building national team of educators/educational/research institutions and resources with specific pedagogical expertise for teacher training in science.

Example: Goal: to better equip today’s teachers to meet state and national science standards. Primary and Secondary level teachers will become comfortable with the nature of scientific knowledge acquisition, and research formation and execution. The cache of curricula will enable teachers to learn the process of science, and apply the knowledge of this process to teach students these same skills as part of their curriculum.
The goal for working with researchers who self select as resources for educators: mentor them in their acquisition of curriculum and instruction and CIM/CAM (Oregon-based education standards) knowledge toward the development of new curriculum for the classroom and inservicing for teachers.

Statement of
Professional
Interests
My top priority, as a teacher, is to utilize and teach critical thinking skills to help students interpret content, and apply the content to their lives. To quote Neil deGrasse Tyson, “Knowing how to think empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.”
Another top priority as an educator/mentor/resource/teacher is to equip pre-service teachers with pedagogical tools and professional support so they can accomplish national, state and district goals with efficiency utilizing realistic goals.
My preferred methodology for teaching is using brain-based teaching and learning research. Using this research, teachers will apply their understanding to teaching their students content information. The application of brain-based processes will help teachers to help their students use these same learning skills as imbedded strategies in the curriculum.
The development and fostering of partnerships between education and content experts is needed and realistic. The creation of a ‘middle’ language for both populations’ use is of critical need as increasing numbers of educators and research institutions seek each other out. Bridging this need is yet another interest that I have.
My professional overarching goal is for everyone that I teach to realize they can become fearless learners, unafraid to question and make mistakes. Everyone can learn to advocate for their own preferred learning styles, and use inquiry-based learning strategies to become life-long learners.
