BACKGROUND HIGHLIGHTS
Academic background and practical experiences highlighted by the following:
• I prepared a Senior Honors Thesis entitled “A City Excluded: An Analysis of Race, Space and Camden, New Jersey” that evaluated the City’s history, politics, changing racial composition of the City’s populace, and its economic development, while analyzing suburban/urban history, discriminatory public policy, and racialization. Employing sociological theoretical frameworks including critical race theory as I traced the evolution in the City’s racial composition linking increases in proportion of ethnic residents to adverse changes in public policy, socioeconomic conditions, and external perceptions regarding the City. For the thesis, I received the Henry Rutgers Award, Highest Departmental Honors and “Best Thesis” in my department.
• I was able to utilize a multitude of pedagogical methods and gained advanced interpersonal communication skills while facilitating others’ abilities to construct substantive essays, and perform to their fullest potential academically.
• I performed functions associated with the entry, processing, and management of electronic medical records (EMRs) in an administrative capacity with a hospital-based group medical practice.
• I gained incredibly valuable experience in medicine through shadowing opportunities with physicians in the fields of family medicine, neurology, and radiology. At the family practice I was performing miscellaneous tasks for the office and was fortunate enough to watch closely as staff performed different pre-diagnostic tests. I also gained significant knowledge in the decorum and professional tact necessary to become an effective physician.
