Job and Volunteer Experience
Unity Family Community Center
Afterschool Teacher
September 2018- Present
I worked at a program through the Florida Department of Juvenille Justice which is free
to kids 5-18 who have been labelled disadvantaged. All the kids come from
low-income families and many have emotional and/or behavior issues. I had a class of
24 kids and I was responsible for ensuring the kids had a fun, safe, and productive
place to go after school. I kept a positive and well-decorated classroom environment
and I helped kids with their homework, coordinated activities, and taught them daily Life
Skills lessons. For these lessons I taught the kids about other cultures, science, and
the amazing world around them, as well as values like respect, kindness, and much
more. I facillitated the kids outside time and managed classroom expectations, as well
as disciplinary procedures. I also took leadership roles at parent nights and maintained
relationships with the parents, communicating with them about their childrens progress,
strengths, and areas for improvment.
