Crew Leaders in the Green Heart Project's Youth Internship Program must be able to build trust, foster engagement, and gain the respect of high school aged crew members. Crew Leaders oversee a team of teenage crew members who maintain a half acre urban farm in the center of downtown Charleston. Crew Leaders guide crew members through their daily farm duties which include: growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops. Crew Leaders support their crew members as they price and sell the produce they have grown to market at an onsite farm stand. Furthermore, Crew Leaders will teach and assist in teaching crew members via daily and weekly educational sessions, workshops and community site visits. Through this internship, Crew Leaders will support crew members as they develop their career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship skills. Salary Range: $15/hr
Weekly Hours: 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm

Position Summary: Crew Leaders will provide direction and supervision to high school age Crew Members while modeling and demonstrating excellent work acumen. Lead and assist in teaching daily educational sessions, workshops, and community site visits. This position is intended to provide an opportunity to gain experience in decision-making, managing people and time, and building leadership skills. This role is active for ten (10) weeks between June 5 and August 11, 2023.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
? Manage a team of high school age Crew Members through guidance, coaching, and mentorship as they maintain farms and garden sites.
? Support activities including, but not limited to, managing, and running an urban farm and market stand, cooking healthy meals with garden produce, preparing for a career, and managing personal finances.
? Guide crew members through a professional job experience, through overseeing their daily farm duties which include growing, harvesting, and processing fruit and vegetable crops.
? Support Crew Members as they develop knowledge and skills in career preparedness, healthy living, and citizenship.
? Guide Crew Members with running the onsite farm stand, including pricing, and selling produce.
? Lead daily educational sessions, workshops, and community site visits.
? Communicate any notable issues and/or successes to the Youth Development Programs Director.
? Other duties/tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Oversee Crew Members through guidance from the Youth Development Programs Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
? At least 19 years of age
? High School Diploma, GED, or completion of a similar program.
? Ability to work in-person for the entirety of the 10-week program, except for the July 4th holiday.
? Ability to work independently and lead; self-directed
? Detail-oriented, dependable, and punctual.

? Previous leadership experience, preferably with high school students.
? Ability to build trust, foster engagement, and gain the respect of high school-aged youth interns.
? Exceptional interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
? Ability to work well with a team and show self-respect, and respect for others and surroundings.
? Optimistic to learn and be open to new experiences.
? Comfortable with �getting your hands dirty� and working in an outdoor environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
? Regularly works in outdoor weather conditions, including but not limited to, exposure to extreme temperatures such as heat or cold.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
? Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, squat, pivot, turn, balance, walk, pull, and lift and carry up to 50lbs. Green Heart will make reasonable accommodations for physical disabilities.
? Ability to quickly move hands and arms sufficiently to grasp, hold, and finely manipulate objects.
