Program Aide

Job Description: The Program Aide position is a PRN part-time job position. The Program Aide is responsible for performing direct care services to participants. The Program Aide is expected to have a positive attitude, be friendly, outgoing, cooperative, flexible, and to follow the policies and procedures of the program at all times.

Specific Duties:
A.) Food Service and Compliance: Follow direction of the Kitchen Director.
1. Prepare and serve beverages and sacks or meals to all participants.
2. Refill water pitcher as needed.
3. Set table with cups, straws, napkins, silverware, and condiments (as allowed).
4. Load and Empty Dishwasher.
5. Read refrigerator and dishwasher temperatures.
6. Put clean dishes in appropriate cabinets.
7. Assist with cleaning the Social Hall.
8. Prepare Social Hall for meals.
9. Take and record food temperatures prior to serving food using Food Program guidelines.
10. Coordinate with Kitchen Aide for seating arrangements.
11. Assist with feeding participants requiring assistance.
12. Assist in clearing and sanitizing tables.
13. Assist with cleaning in the kitchen; counters, refrigerator, cupboards, etc.

B.) Personal Participant Assistance:
1. Keep tables stocked with Kleenex, assist with table arrangements (flowers, etc.)
2. Green participants as they arrive, assist with name tags, label and hang up jackets. Assist with getting jackets at the end of the day, removal of name tags, assist to bus or vehicle.
3. Assist with exercise groups or individual exercise per participant request.
4. Lead 1 activity per week, minimum.
5. Have activities for schedule/calendar in a timely manner as provided by the office assistant.
6. Assist with toileting participants PRN or as scheduled.
7. Assist with bowel & bladder training, bathing, grooming, dressing, ambulation, or laundry as needed.

C.) Behavioral Support:
1. Oversee Social Hall and assist participants with activities and give verbal cues or reminders.
2. Observe and report to the Program Director any participant complaints or unusual conditions.
3. Give emotional support, reassurance, and/or validation in escalating situations with agitation or aggression. Keep appropriate distance from overly agitated participant to prevent injury, notify the Program Director or other staff member to assist.
4. Ambulation/exercise with participants in parking lot or/building.
5. Is aware of attending participants and the location of those prone to “wander”. Is in contact with other staff members via walkie-talkie or cell phone when a participant is being looked for or has been found.

D.)
1. Attends all in-services, staff meetings, and CPR certification.
2. Communicates with caregivers and co-workers in a friendly, professional manner, and maintains a positive attitude when working with others.

E.) General Maintenance
1. Stocks and cleans up bathrooms after program each day.
2. Vacuums program areas as needed and on Friday.
3. Returns tabled in Social Hall to design b church request on Friday.
4. Puts program property into storeroom in a neat and orderly way on Friday.
5. Assist participants with cleaning tasks (dusting, windows, sweep/mop, trash take out or pick up inside building or outside grounds, wipe marker boards, etc.) as needed.
6. Takes out the trash daily and bring in the trash bins from the curb each Monday after program hours or each Tuesday before program hours.

F.)
1. Ethical commitment to refrain from dual relationships or any activity/communication that might compromise or hamper a participant’s or caregiver’s ability to access the program.
2. Communicate with appropriate staff members when a conversation with participant or caregiver reveals information pertinent to participant’s needs, i.e.: medication changes, plans for vacation or absence, illness, significant loss, change in living conditions, etc.
3. Program Aides are in no way to give advice outside of scope of professional education or experience but should direct individuals to their supervisor to determine the appropriate professional to assist them.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to life 30-50 pounds. Must have currant TB Test within the last 3 years and every 3 years after hire. Must have recent physical with in the last 2 years. May require fingerprinting per state regulations. Required clearance through the Northern California Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists.

Qualifications: The Program Aide shall have a high school/equivalent diploma. The Program Aide must be fluent in English. The Program Aide must be able to form positive interpersonal relationships with other staff members, volunteers, and participants in the program. Preferably have a current driver’s license and valid auto insurance. MUST BE FULLY COVID-19 Vaccinated.

Other Optional Qualifications: CNA Certification, LVN Certification, fluent in Spanish, training or experience in one or two-person lift and/or transfer with gate belt, toileting elderly or disabled persons, kitchen and/or food handlers training and/or certification, experience working with DD clients.
