Special Needs Staff
*Candidates will work 1 on 1 with a child with special needs in a childcare program setting.*
*Hours are generally Monday - Friday after school/afternoon hours, but limited morning hours may be available as well.*
POSITION OVERVIEW: Support the YMCA Inclusion Program in order to facilitate the inclusion of children ages: Toddler through Adolescents with developmental disabilities one-on-one in a Childcare program setting.
Provide one-on-one support to children with special needs/developmental disabilities at childcare sites. Support child in re-directing challenging behaviors, positive behavior reinforcement, facilitate positive social skills with peers, etc.
Implement and follow the recommended inclusion plan to assist child in meeting established goals.
Collect and record childs progress towards goals, childs attendance, behavior observations, etc., on a daily basis.
Recommend changes to the Inclusion Plan and childs goals if needed.
Daily communication with childs parent regarding childs daily accomplishments and activities.
Follow and enforce safety standards and other policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Actively participate in on-going staff development and training opportunities (including but not limited to special needs topics, child development, positive behavior interventions, etc.)
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with children one on one or group setting.
Ability to collaborate with outside agencies/community programs as a representative of the YMCA of Orange County.
Ability to work with challenging behaviors as well as to work independently and as a team member.
Excellent planning and organizing skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
Experience working with special needs/developmentally disabled population.
Experience working with ABA concepts.
Prefer completion of (6) units of college coursework in one or more of the following areas: Child Development, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Sociology, Education, or Behavioral Science.
