Math Tutor

A great opportunity for Teachers and/or Professionals who enjoy working with children!! Part-time positions with an opportunity for Full-Time.

Tutoring Club of Watsonville has been successfully serving the community from our Main Street location for over 18 years. We tutor students from K-12 + College in a variety of subjects, primarily: Reading, Math and Writing for grades K-8, High School Math, Science & ACT/SAT Prep. We help kids to "catch up, keep up, or get ahead".

We are dedicated and passionate educators who care deeply about helping young people (and their parents) achieve their goals. We are looking for:

- Highly-motivated and responsible Teachers or Professionals with a BA/BS. (College students with experience and expertise in a particular subject will be considered). Experience teaching and/or tutoring is a must!

- Teachers who have experience with different learning styles, special needs, learning disabilities, and/or English learners.

- Flexible, part-time workers who are available Mon thru Fri afternoons and/or Saturdays.

- Teachers who are passionate about making learning fun, building confidence, and helping kids achieve success both in and out of school.

At the moment we are looking for teachers with a strong background in HIGH SCHOOL or JUNIOR COLLEGE level SCIENCE -- CHEMISTRY, BIOLOGY, PHYSICS, and/or ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. In addition to these Science areas, we need someone who is comfortable teaching STATISTICS.

The ability to also tutor high school level Math (Algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus) and/or ACT/SAT Prep is desirable but not essential.

SPANISH FLUENCY is also highly desirable but not essential, and could result in extra work translating, making phone calls, and conferencing with parents.

Candidates do NOT need to be able to teach ALL of the above areas (Science, Math, Statistics). Of course we would love to find one individual who is great at everything, but that has not happened yet! We work as a team, pairing students with tutors who are most capable of helping them with their particular subject(s). If, for example, a tutor can teach Chemistry, Physics, and Algebra, it is not going to be a deal-breaker if that tutor cannot also teach Biology. We will fill the need for Biology with another tutor. Please apply and we can work out how your particular strengths can complement our team.

Candidates must be able to pass a background check and TB clearance.

Transportation / Able to work here at our center, 1485 Main St, Watsonville

We are offering: $18-22/hr, depending on experience and availability. Tutors receive paid training in our programs and curriculum, and use ready-made lesson plans for grades K-8 and SAT/ACT Prep. High school subjects such as Math or Science are taught according to each student's particular needs and tutors are free to use whatever materials and methods they like. Once training is complete, there is no need to plan lessons, grade papers, or create tests/worksheets. Tutors just show up and teach!

Flexible hours Mon -- Fri afternoons and/or Saturdays.

Job Details: Most tutoring takes place at our center, 1485 Main Street, Watsonville. We are located in the Overlook Shopping Center, next to Yogurtland, Ross, Staples, and Target.

Tutors work with 2 to 3 students each hour. During the school year we are open Mon - Fri from 1 to 8 PM and Sat from 10 AM to 3 PM. During Summer Break we are open Mon - Thur from 10 AM to 6 PM. Students come for one- or two-hour sessions. Tutors work some of these hours (see below).

Tutors' schedules are flexible and are determined by the tutor's availability, experience, and enthusiasm in working with particular ages and subjects. We are currently looking for tutors with a strong Science skills (including Statistics), and Math ability is always a big plus, but the more subjects and age levels a tutor is able to teach, the more hours we will be able to offer him or her.

Please email Steve Smith, Owner/Director, with any questions, or to request an interview. Thank you!
