Description of CSC VVSB Programs and Populations Served:
CSC VVSB assists people who are affected by cancer by enhancing their health and well-being through participation in a professional program of emotional support, education and hope. CSC VVSB serves adults with cancer, their families and friends (primary caregivers), children and teens who have cancer and/or their loved one has cancer, primarily through support groups, educational workshops, healthy lifestyle classes, short term counseling, and with a variety of other psycho-social methods.

Experience and training that interns and trainees will gain in this internship:
Facilitation of support groups (including kids and teen support groups); short-term individual, family, and/or couples counseling; intake and assessment sessions; distress screening; conducting educational workshops including on-campus workshops; special projects (micro and macro); patient advocacy; community outreach; etc. Development of specialized knowledge and skills in the areas of psycho-oncology, management of chronic disease, end-of-life issues, grief and bereavement, strength-based short-time counseling, etc.

Weekly hours:
12 hours to 16 hours per week.

Intern Fees:
Unpaid internship. Weekly individual supervision, bi-weekly group supervision, and excellent professional training provided at no charge.

Supervision Requirements:
Bi-weekly clinical supervision/case consultation – 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 1:00 pm.
Weekly individual supervision with a Licensed supervisor (LMFT and/or LCSW).

Associate Marriage & Family Therapist or Associate Social Worker (with BBS registration), Graduate student (Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work)

Trainings Provided:
Co-facilitation of support groups with experienced licensed psychotherapists, debriefing with the co-facilitator (licensed Psychotherapist); bi-weekly staff (group) supervision with licensed professionals; weekly individual supervision; distress screening administration; exposure to relevant literature and workshops provided by psychooncology experts; participation in healthy lifestyle classes such as yoga, guided imagery, and meditation at no cost.
