• For both the Summer Intern and the Summer Missionary positions, this 2 and a half month experience (May 22 through August 5, 2019) entails an initial 2 weeks of orientation and contextualization; this will include some basic contact-work exposure with students, training in PHM type methodologies, and seeing the military chapel programs and other sibling-ministries at work on the base. From that time forward until the end of the summer, our especial focus will be to develop and mobilize the abilities and initiatives of our individual ministry leaders so that they might gradually expand and accomplish: (1) a brand new student-core, (2) a ministry team of young adults, and (3) elements of a community-connectedness and communication for parents, families, and advocating leaders. The principle activities to accomplish these will include: (a) weekly small group bible studies, (b) weekly sports-related social gatherings, and (c) continuing mentorship and leader-building relationships with teenagers. Summer ministry leaders will be given significant independence and responsibility to accomplish these 3 goals by means of their charge over these 3 principle activities. Additionally, ministry leaders will participate in weekly staff meetings, Sunday visitation and advocacy-building at military chapels, two summer outreach events, and all the necessary coordinations to support their program. Altogether, the trainings and experiences of our summer leaders will amount to learning PHM’s overarching philosophy of Community-Building Ministry Leadership.
