Private Equity Intern

About Rose Rock
Rose Rock Holdings (“Rose Rock”) is a nontraditional type of private equity known as a search fund. Like traditional private equity, we seek to acquire a business in the private, lower-middle market through a leveraged buy-out. What differentiates us is that we will acquire a single business to operate and grow as CEO. We will take a direct management role in the business we acquire. In addition, we have a long-term investment horizon.

About the Internship
Associates will shadow and learn from Rose Rock’s founder at every stage of the lower-middle market deal process. This includes industry research, outreach, business model evaluation, company due diligence, and deal financing. We manage a high volume, multi-stage deal funnel that provides the opportunity to learn about private market investing and explore entrepreneurial opportunities in the finance industry.

It is expected that you will spend at least 1-2 weeks learning each of the following stages of the deal process:

• Conducting research to identify & evaluate industry niches
• Screening & finding company information on potential acquisition targets
• Interfacing with brokers & intermediaries to source opportunities
• Analyzing financial statements & business models
• Financing the deal
• Conducting due diligence on acquisition targets

The Internship Program at Rose Rock provides candidates with experience applicable to both the buy and sell side of the finance industry. You will be working directly for a Harvard MBA (undergraduate in engineering) and exposed to live deals and transactions. You will also have the opportunity to interact with brokers and other intermediaries.

If you are looking for a glamorous internship in a formal office environment, this opportunity is not for you. If you are looking to learn about lower-middle market private equity, search funds, or entrepreneurial finance, in a fast-paced startup culture, this internship will be a valuable learning experience. You will be given responsibility equivalent to the interest and commitment you bring.

Finally, this is an unpaid internship. This program is intended for students who receive course credit from their college or university for such opportunities, and we will work with you to fulfill the necessary requirements. We will provide letters of recommendation and introductions to our vast network of contacts (HBS, private equity, energy industry) to hardworking interns.

Requirements
• No related prior experience is required
• An interest in finance and entrepreneurship
• Strong work ethic and attention to detail

Next Steps
If you are interested, please send a short paragraph explaining why you want the internship and why you think you would be a good fit. Please include a copy of your resume and your availability. Priority will be given to those who can work full time in the Dallas metro area. Remote candidates will also be considered.
