Pablo's Birthday is seeking a part-time unpaid intern to work in tandem with the galleries co-directors in all aspects of gallery operation. The internship will run from November 2019 through February 2020, with the possibility to extend. The interviews will be held during October 2019.
Examples of tasks and duties include maintaining the administration of the gallery database, archiving, maintaining contacts and mailings, social media, designing PDFs, developing promotional strategies, interacting with artists, preparing exhibitions, writing for press releases, shipping, attending and organizing receptions, among other responsibilities.
The position gives a direct experience of the nuts and bolts of running a contemporary art gallery. Working as a team on a small staff makes this an ideal situation to gain first-hand knowledge of, and participation in, many aspects of gallery operations.
We are looking for an ambitious, organized, and driven person who is task-oriented. Candidates must have strong design skills and fluency with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign. The suitable candidate is able to commit to specific regular days week to week. It's mandatory that the intern has knowledge of contemporary art and has at least done a previous internship at an art gallery.
The position is for 2 days a week. Hours 11-6 with some flexibility available regarding how many hours per day depending on applicants' availability.
