Transportation Authority Internship Program

The Transportation Authority has paid internship positions for students who are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and excited about making a meaningful contribution to San Francisco's transportation system.

Due to the size of our agency and our dedication to learning from each other, interns will have the opportunity to interact with professionals at all levels within the Transportation Authority, from your peers to the senior managers. Our staff will work with each intern to develop a program that is tailored to individual strengths and interests, as well as the current needs of our teams. Internships can be combined with general research opportunities or research towards a thesis.

Finance Internship Overview
The Finance and Administration Division manages the Transportation Authority’s accounting, finance and administrative support functions, including financial systems, capital finance, budgeting and investments, procurement, contracting and human resources. This internship will mainly help with drafting and reviewing agreements, assisting in competitive contract vendor selection processes, and assisting in preparing analytical reports.

Employee Type: Intern/Temporary Employee

Availability: Interns should be available to work at least 20 hours per week during regular business hours, for at least a 12-week period starting early 2022. Please note availability in cover letter.

Compensation Range: Compensation commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications
Strong interest in Public Agency Finance and Administration is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google (Gmail, calendar, and Google Docs/Sheets) is required. Proficiency with database management and statistical analysis is a plus.

Skills and Abilities
Speak effectively and write clearly and concisely; strong organization skills; attention to detail; ability to adapt to changes and various software programs. Ability to collect, synthesize, and analyze a wide variety of information; work with efficiency to identify and define problems.

Training and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance field, working towards a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance field, or three years of related experience.

The physical demands and work environment are characteristic of modern office work and include moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic), and are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
