Founded in 1999, BUILD uses entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to reinforce the Common Core, develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school. Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses. As they journey through high school, BUILD provides students with support in navigating the college application process and the opportunity to explore college and career options, while expanding their businesses or opting into community internships.

Position Summary and Outcomes:
The Communications and Development Intern will join the Development team which
supports the BUILD program in 6 DC district and public charter schools. The position will specifically support the Development and Program Systems Manager and Director of Strategic Partnerships with administrative duties including, but not limited to, social media and marketing, event support, volunteer and mentor recruitment, website design and oversight, photo inventory, office inventory and expense reconciliation and data entry into Salesforce and Raiser’s Edge. There are also some opportunities to work with our student business teams, BUILD classroom teachers, and adult mentors at each school site and during events. This internship provides the opportunity to gain experience with school-based program implementation in low-income communities, and observation of best practices around mentorship and college access programming at a rapidly growing nonprofit organization.
Develop social media content, graphics, and implement roll out
Organize all archived media (photos, videos, etc.) in master Google Drive and identify which should be used for PR purposes.
Assist with administrative tasks such as expense reconciliation, ordering supplies & taking inventory
Assisting with data entry both in Salesforce and Raiser’s Edge
Help the team prepare for and implement student events when available
Capture footage at schools and during events when available
Experience or interest in working with under-resourced students, strongly preferred
Organized and efficient with project management and record keeping
Ability to work on multiple projects and once, and or pivot easily from task to task
Strong communicator and receptive to feedback
Experience with and access to Adobe Suite and Canva, a plus
Experience with Google Drive and Microsoft Office, a plus
Experience with Experiential Learning and/or Entrepreneurship, a plus
Experience with Salesforce, a plus
Experience with Raiser’s Edge, a plus
Photography experience or interest, a plus
Enthusiasm for BUILD’s mission, a must
Location: Washington DC Metro Region (office located in Adams Morgan)
Hours/Days needed: 20 hours/week with availability for in person meetings on Tuesday and
Thursdays (more than 20 hours available if requested)
Commitment: Length of the fall semester outlined by school
Start Date: July 15 or date agreed upon
