Job Title: Assistant Grower
Reports to: Farm Manager
Hours: 35-40 hours/week
Position Period: April 5th-November 20th. Winter work available for employees returning in 2024.
Classification: Hourly
Compensation: $15-$18/hour depending on experience, up to 20 hours of paid participation in Emass CRAFT or other farm-relevant educational experience, 3 paid days off, a weekly vegetable CSA share, $200 gear stipend

Farm Overview
We are a for-profit, certified organic, family owned and operated farm, managed by two experienced owner/operators. We distribute to 450 member families through a year-round CSA, our primary outlet. We attend one summer farmers market, work with several wholesale partners, sell 120 bouquets/week from July to October, and sell over 1000 flats of certified organic seedlings at our spring seedling sale. Job Summary?Assistant growers will work closely with the farm manager and the rest of the farm team in all aspects of vegetable production including, but not limited to propagation, planting, trellising, mulching, basic tractor work, harvesting, washing and packing and distribution. Our success depends upon the swift, efficient and collaborative work of our team to grow and distribute high quality produce to our customers. Assistant growers should be prepared to learn and practice a wide variety of vegetable production skills in a fast-paced work environment. Assistant growers will work with the farm management team to establish the weekly work plan and take leadership roles with the farm crew on tasks such as harvest, transplanting and weeding.
Responsibilities
Report to farm manager or assistant manager at start of each shift
Assist in the farm tasks of the day which may include:? - Harvesting, washing, sorting and packing produce? - Transplanting by hand or on the tractor mounted transplanter? - Cultivating/weeding either with hoes, hand tools or by hand? - Moving mulch or compost with wheel barrows? - Seeding in the propagation house? - Cleaning workspaces like the wash station or propagation house
Share leadership responsibilities for regular farm tasks like harvest, planting and weeding
Participate in weekly work planning meetings?Follow directions and ask clarifying questions to accomplish each task to farm standards?Maintain clean and organized workspaces and tools
Some basic tractor work, with training
Minimum Qualifications
Some farm experience required, minimum 1 summer season on a vegetable operation
Must be 16 or older
?Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Able to do fast, quality, detailed work like bunching, picking, seeding and hand weeding?Able to lift and carry 25-40lbs repeatedly?Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Foundational understanding of vegetable production and crop quality?Good communication skills?Able to receive and digest constructive feedback
Able to work independently as well as part of a diverse team?Willing to take on a leadership role for small group projects ?Self-motivated?Valid driver’s license
