Preschool/Pre-K Teacher
Reports to GSS Director

Responsible for providing a safe, clean and nurturing environment for all the children that are a part of the GSS School Family. To abide by all of Good Shepherd School’s policies and procedures, including SC DSS Regulations. In addition to focusing on our mission, which is to provide a high quality early childhood education program in a Christian environment that focuses on the whole child – spiritually, socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually.

Prepare lesson plans that are based on the curriculum including activities that reflect developmentally appropriate practice for preschool/pre-k aged children. Implement daily schedule/routines to maintain classroom structure and management. Develop activities to stimulate the children. Instruct preschool/pre-k aged children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school. . This includes routines related to diapering, hand washing, eating, napping and transitioning between activities. Develop relationships with the children and be a role model for them. Communicate with parents. Give parents an overall report about their child’s day via daily reports. Discuss development milestones with parents using assessments. Be flexible (i.e. work schedule is subject to change). Substitute in another classroom, if necessary.

Supervise children at all times. Comfort children in times of need. Encourage children with expressions and hugs. Establish commitments in the classroom to help keep them safe. Become familiar with emergency procedures and protocol. Clean and sterilize equipment and toys daily. Ensure cupboards are locked and cleaning supplies out of reach. Attend weekly staff meetings & attend trainings as necessary, in accordance with Good Shepherd School Employee Handbook. Perform other related duties as required; (taking out the trash, mopping at the end of the day, cleaning and shutting down classrooms, etc.). Reports any safety and maintenance concerns to the Director. Responsible for providing a positive attitude to all coworkers, students and visitors of the GSS.

Maintains the Good Shepard School’s food program, including planning nutritional meals, procurement of food and supplies, meal preparation, hygiene, and food distribution to classrooms. Complies with DHEC and DSS regulations for child care food service programs.

Follows USDA guidelines for age appropriate portion control. Prepare menus as needed in consultation with the Director. Keep pantry neat and organized. Maintain accurate pantry inventory. Be resourceful with leftovers and spare food to minimize waste. Keep current with DHEC and DSS sanitizing, preparation and food storage procedures and policies.

Pass out snacks and milk to the class rooms. Wash, dry and fold laundry and deliver to the classrooms.
Keep kitchen clean and sanitary according to DHEC and DSS policies. Assist with housekeeping such as cleaning bath rooms, windows, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and moping the hall ways. Recycle trash and take to the appropriate disposable containers.

Reports any safety and maintenance concerns to the Director. Responsible for providing a positive attitude to all coworkers, students and visitors of the GSS. Assist as a Director Designee when required by the absence and direction of the Director.

Responsible for completing any other responsibilities and duties that may be assigned.
