Lead Teacher
Lead Teacher

Who: We are seeking an inspired, trained, K - 1 educator who wants to integrate travel, nature, culture, personal growth and spirituality into a holistic, individualized enrichment program for homeschoolers.

Vision: Imagine spending the majority of your year in an idyllic forest in the foothills of Californias Sierra Nevada in a nature-based program thats designed to support the development of conscious, embodied, and joyful children who have reverence for nature, strong social-emotional skills, and the freedom to explore their interests.

Imagine developing deeply meaningful connections with children from conscious and committed families in a program that is inspired by the philosophies of Waldorf, Montessori, and rooted in Non-Violent Communication/Compassionate Communication, attachment theory and embodiment awareness (please see this document for an overview of our current program in Nevada City: ------------/mg-overview
).

And then imagine having the opportunity (if you so choose) to also spend 3 months of your year immersed in the wonders of Mexico (and potentially other locations in the future) where nature and culture are part of your classroom, or stay with the home pod and dive into cultural thematic immersive learning.

For the majority of the 2022-2023 school year our Madrone Grove pod will be in Nevada City focalizing learning in classrooms on 30 acres of pristine forest, with nature integrated into our learning. We are there during the best weather seasons, with scenic lakes and the Ganges-like Yuba river nearby.

For 3 months (September 2022, January & February 2023), there will be the potential to be in Mexico in the following 3 locations integrating many local excursions and teaching alongside local Spanish speaking co-teachers. This time will have shared leadership to create a bi-lingual immersion, as well as plenty of time for adventure. We will invite some additional families living outside Nevada City to join our pop up classroom at each location. Here are the locations in Mexico that are planned for the next year:
Patzcuaro: highland town filled with crafts and indigenous culture (September)
Majahua: pristine beach with whales offshore, surfing, yoga, and more (January)
Oaxaca: epicenter of arts and culture in the southern highlands (February)
Benefits:
Chance to innovate on the shoulders of traditions like Waldorf, Montessori, and wilderness education with culture, music, empathy skills, art integration, individuated education and more. What does the next level education for 21st century global citizens look like? If youre curious to be at the leading edge, this is a great opportunity.
Work with educators and parents who are established pioneers in holistic education.
Experience the effectiveness and depth of connection available with a smaller student-teacher ratio than is typical in schools
Experience a somewhat higher pay than typical teachers receive, along with holistic perks
Have a chance to explore other cultures while doing what you love and having much of your travel costs covered

Requirements:
Trained, confident, competent and experienced educator focused on K- Elementary education (formal teaching credential not required)
Orientation to a healthy, conscious, holistic lifestyle and imparting that to the children.
Willingness to make your homebase in Nevada County, CA, and (optionally) migrate with our Madrone Grove pod.

Relational affinity, gifts and integrated, established skill in working with children.
Desire and commitment to learn, grow, and explore, both personally and in your work, and ideally replicate the resulting curriculum in more worldschooling pods. The ability to take and assimilate feedback.
Training in educational philosophies including Waldorf, Montessori, Reggio Amelia, or anything similar is a PLUS + for us!

More:
This is not your standard education role so it requires someone who is more visionary, comfortable with a creative flow and willing to be a co-creator. The founders of this pod have started multiple previous private schools and homeschooling pods (Maren Metke) and one of the largest online networks for teachers of transformation (Stephen Dinan and Devaa Mitchell of The Shift Network). They are active in sculpting the vision and collaborating with our precious teachers. A younger homeschooling pod will be operating in parallel with this new pod.
