Full Job Description
Title: Dispensing Nurse

Reports to: Nursing Supervisor, Medical Director, Associate Director and/or Executive Director

Basic Functions: The dispensing nurse will work in an outpatient clinic setting dispensing medications for Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) including methadone/suboxone per DEA,
Federal, and California guidelines. The Dispensing Nurse should be familiar with offered NTP medications such as: Methadone, Buprenorphine, Disulfiram, and Naloxone. The dispensing nurse will perform ongoing assessment of patients and assist in the primary care of patients within the MAT treatment program. Other functions may be required as per clinic need.

Scope: The nursing staff ensures that methadone is dispensed in a safe environment and in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

Current California Nursing License (LVN or RN)
Current CPR certification
Knowledge of Title 9 and Title 22 guidelines
Dependent upon assignment, applicants may be required to pass an extensive background investigation and be fingerprinted. Disqualification for felony, misdemeanor, and traffic offenses will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
A valid California Class "C" Driver's License is required at the time of appointment.
Schedule This is a part time-full time position, averaging 24-36 hours per week or more as deemed necessary by the Executive Director

Responsibilities:

Administers daily narcotic treatment medications according to the Medical Directors orders, and in compliance with all applicable Federal, State and CARF regulations
Administer prescribed medications, including Methadone, Suboxone (Buprenorphine) to patients in accordance with program policy and medical protocols.

Use automated dispensing system(s), calibrate pump and maintain dispensing equipment
Ensure compliance with security standards for the distribution and storage of controlled substances as set forth in the Code of Federal regulations
Perform drug and alcohol testing such as urine collection and alcohol breath testing.
Schedule monthly drug screens and monitor patient results.
Inputs drug screen results in the designated electronic medical record system.
Provide daily assessment of patients, which may include routine diagnostic checks
(monitor pulse, blood pressure, temperature, TB test administration, etc.)

Provides health education as needed to patients: refer as needed.
Provides emergency first aid to patients in need: crisis intervention
Documents clearly and descriptively in nurses� notes, regarding any situation, or services provided to the patient with the patients� response noted.
Refers patients to primary counselor when a patients needs are beyond the scope of nursing practice
Maintains knowledge and compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, as well as any company policies and procedures regarding methadone dispensing and treatment (Title 9, Title 22, DEA, CARF)
Assists Nursing Supervisor in other program related duties
All other Duties assigned by the Executive Director

Completes CEU�s annually for renewal of professional licensure
Physical/Mental Requirements:

Must be able to sit and or stand for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift 15-25 lbs on occasion
Personal and intellectual ability to collaborate and organize effectively, understand and work with complex systems, provide professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary team
Manual dexterity and gross motor skills sufficient to operate a computer or manually complete required documentation in a legible and timely manner
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in language that can be readily understood by the majority of the Clinic�s patients, staff and funders
Ability to effectively perform job responsibilities in a high stress environment.
Ability to utilize efficient, productive work habits
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Per diem

Pay: $28.00 - $32.88 per hour
