AmeriCorps Project CHANGE Montgomery combines a traditional AmeriCorps placement with the most innovative training and supervision drawn from the complementary disciplines of the narrative method and peer to peer executive coaching. Learn with outstanding faculty that include performer and author Noa Baum, ( on how to tell a story) Coach Greg Robison ( Mindfulness and life Journalling) executive master coach Lynn Feingold ( the art of peer to peer coaching) Lockheed Martin retired manager John Dold ( Building a Team) author and Professor, Dr. Jean Freedman ( How Improv can improve performance) Women's Business coach, Maria Mcelhenny ( financial Literacy ) and many others. This outstanding team has been brought together under the leadership of world authority on narrative method and Project CHANGE director, Paul Costello.
Project CHANGE Montgomery is the original Montgomery County MD program of AmeriCorps, America's "Domestic Peace Corps." We are seeking members to volunteer for the next service year. Places are available from mid-August 2019 to mid-August 2020. Members serve the county's most under-served K-12 students inspiring them to become more engaged learners. In return, members receive training, a living stipend plus bonus on completion, an educational scholarship, health benefits, professional mentoring, a team of supportive peers, connection to AmeriCorps alumni, preference in hiring for many organizations, and overall a life-changing experience. Members serving two years are offered the chance for some international experience. Positions are full time (1700 hours over 12 months) and Half Time. ( 900 hours over 12 months) Information Sessions are being offered for May-July.
Assignments in Montgomery County's Project CHANGE include the following outstanding nonprofit and educational organizations:
POSITIONS AVAILABLE BEGINNING AUGUST 2019 COULD INCLUDE:
•Montgomery County Public Schools: Two full time members will serve in the new Career Readiness Education Academy (CREA) program that offers literacy and numeracy education to K-12 students who are in danger of not graduating and dropping out. It is both a morning and after school 3pm-8pm program four days a week. Fluency in Spanish is an advantage as well as having your own car. Positions open in August 2019.
-One half-time member (900 hours) will serve at the Dual Language program at Kemp Mills Elementary School. The members must be fluent in Spanish.
-One full time member (1700 hours) will serve in the Two Way Immersion program at Brown Station Elementary School. This special program is an educational model in which students develop high levels of speaking, reading, writing, and listening in English and in Spanish (or another non-English language). The member will assist the teachers deliver the same academic content and standards (MCPS Curriculum) as traditional classroom teachers, while providing instruction in two languages. Spanish is necessary.
-Three full-time members will be supporting Gaithersburg High School teachers who run the METS/ESOL programs for students who are struggling to catch up to their age appropriate level of education.
•George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy: Provides Saturday School for 3000 students in Montgomery County, mostly from minority backgrounds. The AmeriCorps member works directly with students in this program and during the week, with students at Blair High School in the ACES program. (Half Time)
•Caring Matters: Provides support services to children grieving the death of a loved one. The AmeriCorps member helps to coordinate and facilitate the Good Grief Clubs for students and weekend camps. (Full Time) Ideal candidates will have a social work, psychology or education background, experience with children and access to a car, because they need to be able to go out to different schools all over the county.
•Montgomery Housing Partnership: Provides after school programs for students primarily from immigrant families. The AmeriCorps members help coordinate and supervise preschool and after-school programs. (Three full time positions available)
•YMCA: Benchmarks A member serves in this after school program that offers academic enrichment and life skills to middle school youth residing in the greater Rosemary Hills Community. The member also helps coordinate a High School Civics Engagement program based out of Bethesda Chevy Chase High School. - (Two full time positions available)
· ClancyWorks Dance Company -Member will deliver training in dance to after school programs working with disadvantaged K-12 kids and contribute to Clancy Dance performances. Member must be an experienced dancer. (Two full time positions available)
· Community Bridges- Community Bridges empowers girls from diverse backgrounds to become exceptional students, positive leaders, and healthy young women. They address the developmental needs of immigrant and minority girls and their families living at or below the federal poverty level in Montgomery County, Maryland. (Three full time positions are available.)
· Family Learning Solutions- Two full-time members (FLS) aims to support entire school community, improve classroom management, match students with resources to facilitate academic achievement and create career pathways for motivated high school students. Members serve at Neelsville Middle School and at Gaithersburg High School.
Applicants must be high school graduates and American citizens or permanent residents.
