Outdoor Recreation Coach

As an Outdoor Recreation Coach, you'll work with two other AmeriCorps members in Skowhegan, Maine, to plan and execute free outdoor recreation activities, events, and trainings for our residents. Member-led programming will range from low-impact activities like nature hikes and lunchtime walks around downtown to high-impact activities like mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and whitewater paddling. You'll plan a minimum of three activities each week, and you'll work with local organizations, schools, and stakeholders to promote programming and encourage participation. You'll also recruit volunteers--people who will sustain the program for years to come--and fine-tune our volunteer engagement and management practices. AND you'll draft a business plan for a community gear hub and then start the hub out of our office!

Outdoor Recreation Coaches will be hired as AmeriCorps State Members to serve in the Skowhegan, Maine community. These are 40-hour per week positions with a living allowance and other benefits that run through December 31, 2019. If the program is a good fit, members may have the option to serve an additional one or two years.

We are seeking adventurous, enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented people to:

Create, schedule, coordinate, promote, and lead outdoor recreation activities, trainings, events, and programs.
Establish relationships with local schools and community organizations to help promote programming and encourage participation.
Maintain organized and accurate outdoor recreation program data (attendance records, budgets, planning details) and provide periodic progress reports and budget updates for each event to executive director.
Develop and execute marketing communications plan to promote programming.
Recruit, engage, and train volunteers in outdoor recreation programming best practices.
Develop and refine volunteer management policies and best practices for the organization.
Draft a business plan for a community gear hub/library, including management processes, policies, and procedures.
Manage gear hub/library, including gear loans and maintenance.
