The Barstow School is a PS-12 private school in Kansas City, MO located in South Kansas City. Extended Care is an after school daycare program for PS-8 students within The Barstow School that provides care to students outside of regular school hours from 2:30 - 6:00 PM. We service three age divisions of daycare (PS-K, 1st-5th, 6th-8th).
We are currently seeking to hire 5 new staff members as Daycare Leads/Assistants for the 2023-2024 school year. We accept applicants of all different ages and backgrounds. However, experience working with students is required.
Baseline Requirements/Skills: You must possess prior experience working with students in an academic/daycare setting, have an enthusiastic/positive attitude to work with students, be able to pass a school background check, and have the schedule availability to work 3-5 afternoons per week.
Daily Responsibilities/Expectations:
In a Daycare Lead/Assistant, we are seeking an individual of high character who seeks to work with students at the school in a fun, enriching environment on a consistent basis. The ability to actively communicate and interact with both colleagues and students in a positive, appropriate manner is of the utmost importance. The shift for the job is 2:30 - 6:00 PM daily. The duties will include:
Setting up your division's daycare area for the day (putting out toys, stations, table signs)
Overseeing groups of students varying in size during various activities
Overseeing students on the playground when weather permitting
Re-directing student behavior when it is inappropriate
Interacting with students regularly (assisting with homework, playing games, etc.)
Communicating students' whereabouts and confirming their departure via a walkie radio
Returning all of the toys to the appropriate closets, etc.
Mandatory Requirements:
Must be able to work at least 2-3 afternoons per week (can work up to 5)
Must be able to commit to a work schedule for an entire semester
Must pass a background screening
Must be comfortable using a walkie-talkie radio to communicate
Must have reliable transportation and be able to show up on time regularly
2:30 - 6:00 shift time is preferred / we can allow for late start times in some instances
Pay scale is $13-17/hr. This is based on experience, # of days you can commit to, and level of responsibility that you are assigned in the position (Lead vs Assistant).
