4th-5th Grade In-School Science Instructor
STAR Education is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic part-time Science Instructor for the 2022-2023 school year. As an Instructor, you will independently teach scientific concepts (NGSS) through hands-on projects to 4th and 5th grade students.
Program is currently held in Cheviot Hills (LA), Mid Wilshire (LA), and Santa Monica.
This position is a great fit for individuals pursuing a career in education and/or science who would like to create lasting relationships with students and their school community. Explore innovative ways to teach science and engineering content, concepts, and practices!
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
● Teach STAR Science lessons that are aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to K-5 students.
● Teach Engineering is Elemental Lessons to K-5 students.
● Attend trainings to learn STAR lessons when necessary.
● Engage in equitable and just teaching practices for all students.
● Arrive on time and provide educational, safe, and enjoyable class experiences for all students.
● Communicate regularly with the STAR science staff.
● Follow all district-wide Covid-19 protocols and STAR Covid protocols.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
● 2+ years teaching experience desired/no teaching credential needed.
● Ability to work with a range of students from grades K-5th.
● Must be self-directed and independent.
● BA/BS Degree completed in an undergraduate program in the following subjects is preferred: Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Psychology, Environmental Studies, or Physics.
● Must have strong classroom management skills.
● Must be enthusiastic, responsible, independent, collaborative, and flexible.
● Must have reliable transportation and be willing to transport class materials from the STAR office to the school site.
