General Overview of the Camp Counselor
We are currently looking for energetic & passionate individuals who want to teach STEAM. Join our growing team of summer camp counselors to conduct exciting science programs in the summer. A great opportunity for college students and teachers that have summer off to continue their love for working with children. Part- time and full-time positions available. Must be a self-starter that want to inspire students by teaching children that science is all around us. All staff will receive training.
Responsibilities of the Summer Camp Counselor
Each session is a high energy, part entertainment, educational, hands on camp that runs from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM throughout summer. Staff will work in shifts - Location NOVA
Build strong connections with campers, taking personal responsibility for each camper’s well-being, enjoyment, and development.
Maintain enthusiasm and focus throughout the day during which you will participate with campers in every aspect of the program.
Actively engage and interact with the children during lunchtime periods.
Assist with campers snack break and lunch and clean up the area.
Prepare, organize and set up / take down all programming materials and areas, and take responsibility for managing camper’s belongings and camp supplies appropriately.
Meet SciGenius dress code and appearance requirements
Communicate professionally with parents as requested by leadership in order to provide customer connection and relay important information on the camper’s experience.
Facilitating week-long, full-day STEAM summer camps using a pre-set curriculum.
Report supply needs to Summer Camp Director.
Ensure that all materials are being utilized effectively at his/her site (limited waste)
Participate in recreational activities.
Manage records including attendance.
Experience and Credentials of the Camp Counselor
Minimum of 18 years old.
Must have a minimum of 3 months experience or training in a similar role
High school diploma or GED required; one or more years of college preferred
Prior experience working with children between the ages Pre-K through 8th Grade.
Must possess or be able to obtain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Advanced Lifesaving.
The ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforce safety regulations and apply appropriate policies and procedures.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
A genuine passion for and desire to work with children
Valid Driver’s License with a clean record
Clean Criminal Record (Background check will be required)
CPR Certification will be a bonus.
Job Types: Full-time, Temporary
Pay: $12.50 - $18.00 per hour
