Mental Health Practicum/Internship

Description

This internship would be best suited for master’s level psychology students who are seeking valuable experience at a local mental health clinic, while under the supervisor of an experienced Psychologist. Applicants will be tasked with completing diagnostic assessments, developing treatment plans and conducting individual therapy and group therapy sessions. They will also be required to attend a supervisor session once a week and group supervision sessions once a month.

Responsibilities

Complete diagnostic assessments (DAs)

Develop and implement treatment plans based on DA, clinical experience and knowledge

Conduct individual and group therapy sessions

Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment

Gather information about community mental health needs and resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy

Assess clients' mental condition based on review of client information, interviews, observation, tests, and collaboration with other staff members

Serve as a client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations

Conduct initial family assessments and refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary

Attend weekly and monthly supervision sessions

Be willing to commit at least 20 hours a week; a full time internship is also available

Qualifications

BA in psychology or related field

Ability to work cooperatively as a team member

Must be able to work flexible work schedule including evenings

Superb organizational skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families

Able to work with immigrant populations and interpreters
