Orthodontist

Position Summary
A Dental Orthodontist specialist who is responsible for the diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion, as well as neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities of the developing or mature orofacial structures. Additionally, the orthodontist provides maintenance of proper occlusion after treatment conclusion.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company, state and federal agencies.
  • Consults with the patients and advises them of their dental status, prescribes the treatment required, provides risks and alternatives and documents according to department, company, state and federal agency guidelines.
  • Mainly oversees the orthodontic care provided to patients. Responsible for evaluating overall dental health as well as providing orthodontic services.
  • Treats soft hard tissues diseases of the oral cavity; prescribes surgery on oral tissues when necessary; renders prosthetic treatment when approved and indicated; designs and places orthodontic devices to correct malocclusion of teeth and renders any and all dental services to restore the oral health of the patient.
  • Provides preventive dental services to patient, such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth, and provides education in oral health and dental hygiene.
  • Maintains current knowledge base of dental and orthodontic literature. Provides lectures and or seminars on specific assigned topics as directed by the dental director.
  • Maintains current California Dental License, DEA Certificate, and BLS.
  • Completes administrative duties as assigned by the Dental Director.
  • Takes ownership, reviews, amends and approves treatment notes.

Other Responsibilities

  • Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
  • Attends meetings as required and participates on committees as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Supervisory Relationship
Reports directly to Chief Dental Director. Oversees Dental Staff and Assistants and reports any misconduct and/or performance issues to clinical supervisor and/or Dental Director.

Position Qualifications
Education: DDS Degree and completion of a US accredited Orthodontic Residency Program.
Certification: Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of California, Orthodontic Residency Program Certificate, Board Certification preferred, DEA License and CPR certificate.
Experience: 2 years experience preferable.
Supervisory Experience: Supervision of dental assistants. Experience preferred. Equipment Used: Dental operatory equipment, laboratory, sterilization equipment and front office equipment.
Technical Knowledge: Computer skills involving word processing, email and dental management programs such as Dentrix are preferable.
Skills: Other Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred. Good oral and written communication.
Physical Activities: Mostly sitting position while bending forward to treat patients. Working Traits: Good communications skills with the public and other employees. Patience and understanding toward others.
Working Conditions: May be required to work some evenings and/or Saturdays.
