Job Summary

The Laboratory Assistant performs testing to provide data for the evaluation of cannabis-related specimens. Performs at a high degree of professional excellence, including but not limited to sound, independent judgment, reliability, initiation, flexibility, and interpersonal relationships and communications.

The Laboratory Assistant must conform to acceptable professional standards of conduct defined by the practice leadership. To be successful, this person requires minimal or no direct supervision and can work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities

Records quality control metrics according to established protocol.
Performs physical testing on various cannabis-related specimens following laboratory, state, and ISO 17025 standards.
Monitors test analysis and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained.
Performs various procedures with cannabis specimens using analytical equipment.
Follows established protocols for analysis, quality, and ancillary procedures.
Performs remedial actions and records all quality control failures and corrective actions according to established protocol.
Performs and logs instrument maintenance according to established protocol.
Maintains good inventory and notifies the appropriate person when inventory is low.
Interrupts testing to perform rush procedures when necessary.
Demonstrates troubleshooting skills.
Maintains a clean work area, sanitizes all countertops at the end of shift, and fills out the cleaning log.
Adheres to laboratory safety practices, including but not limited to OSHA hazardous chemicals training and monitoring.
Cooperates and effectively communicates with laboratory personnel.
Assists in the development of new policies and procedures.
Participates in Proficiency Testing if involved in routine specimen testing.
Qualifications

Required: 6 months hands-on working experience with cannabis products (i.e. budtender, production, manufacturing, etc.)
Associate’s degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences preferred.
At least six months of experience in a regulated laboratory environment is preferred.
Reasoning skills to apply principles to draw valid conclusions, interpret technical instructions, etc.
Advanced math skills to set limits and understand and use CV’s and SD’s.
Follow good laboratory and documentation practices.
Can use an analytical balance and air displacement micro pipettors with minimal assistance
Contribute to and drive safety culture.
Good communication skills in both written and oral form.
Ability to read and comprehend English and comprehend and follow oral and/or written instructions.
Ability to record observations legally.
Comfortable communicating via electronic media (email, LIMS, Text message, etc.)
Positive attitude and good work ethic.
Must be able to demonstrate the technical skills for routine testing in the area of assignment within three months of hire.

Direct Reporting
Reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
