Essential to the resilience of any community in the face of natural or man-made disaster is a state of preparedness that includes critical knowledge of resources and safety protocols. The AmeriCorps Disaster Preparedness Outreach Specialist leads the community education arm of Sewa International’s Disaster Services.
During Blue-Sky periods, these Members fan out into the community (with a specific focus on the marginalized, the underserved, seniors, children and those with special needs) to educate the population on the importance of preparedness and community networking to increase resilience during a disaster. These efforts are intended to mitigate damages, save lives and enhance the recovery potential of any community impacted by disaster.
