Organizational Overview
Founded in 2008, I Have A Future (IHAF) (www.ihaveafuturema.us) is a social justice organization of youth organizers and allies who build power to win youth jobs and end mass incarceration through transformational leadership development, direct public action, and policy change. IHAF is a fiscally sponsored project of MCAN (www.mcan.us).
Our core constituency is reflective of an organizational value that those most affected by the issues of youth unemployment and youth criminalization should be at the center. As such, our core constituency is young people of color. We believe that it’s our duty to uplift their voices in a system that continues to leave them unheard. Here, they are given opportunities to strategize and practice the skills of direct public action and policy change.
Position Overview
The I Have A Future Social Media Manager will help develop and execute the organization’s social media strategy, and develop and post content on the organization’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and website. While not a requirement, experience with video editing and crafting video content is preferred.

An ideal candidate is someone who is a talented writer, creative, and excited about using social media as a tool to amplify youth-led movements across Massachusetts. They are also looking to use and strengthen their communications skills while helping to grow the organization’s digital presence, build out its social media accounts, and engage stakeholders through accessible social media content.

This is a part-time position at 25 hours a week, and the hourly wage is $18/hour.

Responsibilities
The Social Media Manager will administer I Have a Future’s social media presence. Tasks include but are not limited to:

Maintain and update organization’s social media accounts with appropriate and engaging content
Design and create graphics for social media posts;
Assist in developing and executing plans to grow organization’s social media presence and increase the following of its social media accounts;
Reposting and sharing support for coalition posts
Develop monthly social media posting schedules that reflect the organization’s mission and goals;
Measure and analyze engagement data in order to monitor social media trends and capabilities
Review social media analytics and make recommendations for greater audience engagement
Support the communications team in developing and executing the organization’s overall communication strategies
Conducting workshops to support Youth Organizers with digital strategy and involvement
Creating relationships with radio and print mediums locally and statewide
Recommend new, creative ways to communicate information to audiences with varying degrees of knowledge, experience, and viewpoints
Create and edit videos covering education funding and state finance issues the organization works on
Other duties and special projects, as assigned.

Specifics
We are based in the Dorchester within neighborhood of Uphams Corner. 14 Cushing Ave 02125
Flexibility to work on- or off-site with at least 1-2 days in-office for staff meetings and youth programming
Pay is $18-22/hour
Hours would be 25/hrs a week, must be able to commit to coming to the office at least once a week
Meeting with your supervisor 1 hour/week
Attending one staff meeting each week

Qualifications
Education/Experience requirement: at least 1-3 years direct experience working in the community and/or college level education (organizing experience with youth (14-25)/communities of color preferred);
Understand the role of community organizing in developing powerful strategies and actions to change laws and narratives. Furthermore, they’re eager to improve on what has been done before through research, training, and experimentation.
Experience creating social media content for organizations;
Advanced knowledge of social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc), website design and their capabilities;
Experience working with young people, particularly through a youth organizing and youth development lens.
Strong racial analysis and understanding of intersectionality in fighting for social change
A self-starter who is detail-oriented, able to take initiative and ownership of projects, and able to provide creative and strategic feedback in the planning process
Ability to produce high quality work in a fast-paced environment while multitasking
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking, facilitation,
Ability to start in by early November 2021

Benefits and Compensation
This is a part time position, set at 25 hours a week ranging from $18-22/hr depending on experience. This position is not eligible for benefits.
