Job Description: Sustainable Iowa Land Trust (SILT) is seeking a summer intern to help develop and implement an outreach campaign to Iowa landowners and beginning farmers. The SILT Summer Outreach Intern will report to the Executive Director of SILT and work closely with the Central Iowa staff.

The Outreach Intern will be part of a team developing a campaign to identify and meet with Iowa landowners most likely to preserve their land for sustainable food farming and identify the aspiring and beginning farmers most likely to seek such land.

This project includes but is not limited to:
Developing a deep profile of the ideal landowner and ideal farmer.
Compiling demographic data available through ArcGIS, Google, your educational institution and/or the public library
Employing GIS and other technologies to define ideal geographic, social, economic and other focus areas
Creating a plan that involves effective outreach at farmers markets and social gatherings as well as by social media through video, Google ads, Facebook ads and more.
Working with the team to implement a plan that generates specific metrics and deliverables.

This is an opportunity to gain experience and knowledge of sustainable agriculture, get an inside look at the operations of an innovative and growing nonprofit while learning to work with a team on the ground. The intern will shadow meetings with government agencies, other nonprofits and landowners, as well as attend farmers markets and farm field days.
The intern will complete research projects to identify landowners who may be interested in partnering with SILT. To do so they will use GIS, DonorSearch, landowners records, and other sources of information to search for leads. The intern will also create an outreach/marketing plan for reaching landowners, using Google and Facebook ads, videos. The intern will walk away having completed a marketing plan and a research project.

This position is open to anyone currently attending college or graduate school in Iowa.

Hours: Up to 40 hours a week for up to 12 weeks during the summer, subject to the intern’s availability.

Pay: $15/hr

Qualifications: This opportunity is open to college and graduate students, with a preference for college sophomores or above, but qualified first year college students will be considered. Many majors or areas of study will be considered, including: social sciences, humanities, data science, management, marketing, and business majors. All majors and areas of study will be considered and are encouraged to apply if interested. Personal vehicle and cell phone required.
