Are you deeply worried, angry, or otherwise unhappy about the current state of our country and the Commonwealth? Do you keep score of progressive policy gains and setbacks? Are you concerned about the inequities in the accessibility of reproductive health and rights? Are you eager to jump into the debate to advance policies to support Virginians and families across our state? You may be a perfect fit for our team of “repro warriors”.

Pro-Choice Virginia is seeking two part-time Community Organizing Interns to assist our regional Community Organizers for 10 hours/week for a period of 10 weeks over the summer. These individuals will be responsible for assisting our organizers in preparing for several community-wide events and manage programming over the coming months. In addition, interns will assist in building a stronger corps of volunteers through targeted programming.

Who We Are
Pro-Choice Virginia (PCVA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and advancing reproductive rights and health care access at the state level through policy advocacy, grassroots activism, and political organizing. With the support of tens of thousands of member-activists, we build political power for pro-choice Virginians and work to ensure every woman can make the personal reproductive health care decisions that are best for herself and her family – including preventing unplanned pregnancy, having healthy pregnancies and births, and accessing abortion.

Pro-Choice Virginia Foundation oversees our grassroots advocacy, training and education programming, and the Pro-Choice Virginia Political Action Committee. Our staff of 8 is located across a central office in Old Town Alexandria, VA and satellite offices in Richmond and Hampton Roads.

What You’ll Do
You will:
• Lead tabling events in the community to raise the organization’s profile and recruit new volunteers
• Plan events for volunteers to increase group cohesion and expand the repro care;
• Research opportunities for grassroots engagement
• Help manage volunteers and programs

Who You Are
To be successful in this internship, you may have some of the following qualifications:

Desired Qualifications:
• Support of the mission, vision, and work of Pro-Choice Virginia and knowledge of reproductive rights, health, and justice issues.
• Experience in volunteering and/or volunteer outreach.
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated – must be comfortable working independently.
• Outgoing personality, and an ability to connect with people of varying backgrounds.
• Strong written and interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Must be able to work special events, occasional evenings, weekends, and possible weekday check-ins
• Ability to go with the flow, comfort with shifting priorities, and a strong sense of humor.

What Else You Should Know
We are a culture of progressive people deeply committed to reproductive rights and freedom and we are eager to defend and advance those rights. We work in a fast-paced, team-oriented culture, and are frequently multi-tasking and collaborating to meet deadlines.

We are committed to a diverse, socially just, and welcoming work environment. We are an equal opportunity employer and people of color, people with varying abilities, and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities are especially encouraged to apply.

This is a part-time internship requiring 10 hours per week for 10 weeks between June and mid-August 2022. Most responsibilities will take place during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, with some weekday evenings hours required, at local events like Farmers’ Markets and festivals, therefore access to a car is preferred. Internship positions are based in Richmond and Hampton Roads, so proximity to one of those areas is also preferred.

A stipend of $1000 for the internship will be provided (paid in monthly installments) and we will work with students to receive academic credit, if applicable.

To Apply:
To apply, please send cover letter and résumé to apply[at] with subject line "Community Organizing Intern – [Your Name]."
