Art and Production Handler / Space Technician

Summary

We are currently seeking a technician who will be responsible for managing several gallery / commercial spaces with weekly patching and touch up painting as well as assisting clients with installing artworks, temporary shelving and other installation and production work. This position will report to the Production Manager and Owner.

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

You will work with an exciting team to support galleries, fashion and retail brands to Pop Up in NYC. We have fantastic clients from all over the world checking in and out of our spaces on a regular basis. Your role will be to directly assist the clients to check in and out of the spaces. Depending on how busy we are each week, your team will be expanded to be sure we are able to complete the required projects.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

Client Check in: Install paintings, shelves, deliver light furniture from our storage, assist with lighting adjustments and set up for the clients..
Support for special projects
Client Check out: Patch holes, Touch up paint, return any rental furniture at the end of the Pop Up.
Ordering supplies: paint, patching materials, cleaning supplies.
Weekly team zoom meeting.
Coordinating other technicians, cleaners as required.
Training lower grade technicians when required
Ensure a high degree of detail and focus on every job
Assist with lighting exhibitions, including changing fixtures and bulbs.
Photograph the spaces after Check In for our online portfolio
WHO YOU ARE

This position will involve significant contact with artists, gallery partners and clients, therefore excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Must be very detail oriented, highly organized, able to take direction well and multi-task. The ideal candidate is dependable, responsible, has good problem solving skills, professional appearance, and a sensitivity to handling high-value, delicate items safely.
Experience with light tools and power tools required for installation of artworks, light shelving, clothing racks and changing rooms,; basic math skills required for design and installation.
Ability to handle and move artworks, including installing, wrapping and packing and using appropriate techniques and materials for installation. Previous experience preferred.
Must be self-motivated and able to work well under pressure.
Experience with space photography - to photograph installations. Does not have to be professional level. We have camera equipment.
Interested in art, fashion and creative store environments
Excellent problem-solving skills
Able to work from our NYC, Manhattan office
Installation experience of a wide range of art works in different environments
Team player, able to work with all levels of staff in a dynamic environment
Experience with the use of painting tools, hand trucks, dollies and other necessary logistics equipment
Curious about building materials technology and Sustainability
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand, walk, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, reach overhead, and stand for extended periods of time.
Comfortable bending, kneeling, crouching, etc. and standing for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift, move, reasonably heavy objects of varying size and shape.
