Day Program Assistant
Program Support:

· Assist in the provision of program activities as assigned by the lead staff of the Early, Moderate and Late-Stage Programs (craft, exercise, board games, sing-a-longs, discussion groups, etc.)

· Participate in care plan meetings for participants

· Report any noticed changes in participants’ physical and mental well-being to the lead staff of the program

· Provide supervision and assistance on off-site outings

· Assist in decorating program areas in seasonally appropriate fashion

Participant Support:

· Assist participants with ADLs (Activities of Daily Living)

· Assist participants with ambulation- with attention to fall risk prevention

· Assist participants with toileting: including incontinence care and hygiene needs, ensuring participants wash/sanitize their hands after using restrooms, and before and after eating

· Assist participants with feeding (unless their aide is present)

· Assistance with dressing: responsible for helping participants with coats, hats, gloves or other clothing they may need assistance with

· Transfers from wheelchair to chair and assistance getting into and out of chairs

· Be aware of participants’ dietary needs and restrictions to ensure participant safety (diabetes diet, low salt, food allergies, etc.)

· Monitor participant hydration

· Ensure participant safety by monitoring wandering behavior and monitoring program environment for potential safety risks

· Ride LIAD Center buses as a transportation aide ensuring that participants’ seat belts are fastened, that participants do not get up while buses are in transit and keep masks on; sit with participants that may become agitated or upset; assist participants on and off vehicle where needed; and, assist participants to and from their home, to the bus and vice versa

· Maintain and organize storage space for craft supplies, games, puzzles, holiday decorations and incontinence supplies in a neat and orderly fashion

· Maintain sanitary storage of food for lunch, snacks and beverages

· Maintain a clean environment in food service and bathroom areas as needed This Includes following CDC recommendations for Covid-19 prevention

· Assist in the preparation and serving of coffee, tea, and other beverages as well as lunch and snacks

· Ensure that participants with incontinence needs are toileted on a regular basis (following morning arrival, before lunch and before leaving The LIAD Center at the end of the program day).
Worker Education and/or Experience:

1.) The program assistant/respite companion must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.

2.) It is preferable that the respite companion should have previous experience in caring for someone with a disability, dementia, or the elderly. Bilingual workers are strongly encouraged to apply. Needs to be proficient in English.

5.) NYS Driver’s License Required and in good-standing

Job Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, on-site in Westbury, NY. Part-time options also available.
