A nurturing, creative family in Telluride, CO is seeking an equally creative and self-starting private educator with a passion for learning and education for their 11-year-old boy!

Location: Telluride, CO
Ages of children: 11 years old, 5th grader
Start date/Contract dates: August 30th or as soon as they find the right fit!
Schedule: Full-time, guaranteeing 40 hours/week with the general class time falling on Monday-Friday between 8-3pm. Excitement to take the classroom on the road and work some weekends as the family travels will be essential as well as a willingness to jump in should schedule changes arise. This position will take place over 10 months and will cover 180 days of academic instruction, with 2 consecutive summer months off per year. In addition, this student spends 10 days/month out of state visiting their other parent; additional days which the candidate will get to enjoy as paid time off.
Compensation: The family is offering $40-45/hour based on the 40-hour/week schedule, which equates to an annualized base compensation of $85-95k/year range dependent on experience and the agreed-upon schedule. The family may be open to candidates seeking a higher compensation package commensurate with experience.
Benefits: The family is open to providing benefits including paid time off, paid holidays, a health insurance stipend, a vehicle for professional use, and relocation assistance based on candidate needs and the full benefits package.
Live-in/Live-out: Live-out. The family is open to helping employees obtain and, if necessary, subsidize living situations to reasonable standards.

Household dynamic:
This hardworking, dynamic mom is passionate about instilling a sense of work ethic, self-starting, love of learning, and creativity in her son. He will be going into 5th grade this year, is incredibly bright and gifted, and enjoys staying engaged in his learning. Some of his favorite subjects include physics, science, and astronomy!
They deeply value project-driven learning and have found that their son thrives when utilizing engaging, creative projects to learn about various subjects. To foster socialization and community building, their son spends afternoons participating at an outdoor Mountain School, so openness to collaboration and building communication bridges with this programming will be essential for the right educator.
As mom’s schedule fluctuates with travel throughout the year, she is eager to find a private educator who can continue his private home school education work with the school in the area and other resources to build a proper curriculum, and be flexible to an on-the-go and adapting work environment.

Ideal candidate:
The ideal candidate for this family will be a bright and confident self-starter who is ready to take the reins when it comes to developing and implementing a curriculum with which their son will thrive! This family deeply values a love of learning, creative problem solving, fostering self excellence, spending time outdoors, following their learner’s interests, and appreciates a candidate who can facilitate project-driven learning, and who is curious about and interested in incorporating a variety of learning philosophies!
A grounded candidate who considers themselves a lifelong learner will feel at home in this role. Their son travels to his father’s house once a month, so communicating curriculum to a tutor the father has hired, tracking progress during that visit, and collaborating with his other educator will be essential. A candidate who enjoys travel will have plenty of opportunities to join the family and provide educational experiences on the road in the months to come. Being flexible, adaptable, and able to go with the flow will be key. The family employs a full-time chef/caretaker, so this role will be strictly education-based, although some days the teacher may be asked to heat up some prepared food from the fridge for the child’s lunch.

Qualifications:
At least 3 years of professional teaching experience in a classroom or homeschool setting
Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree in a child or education-related field preferred
Experience traveling with families and children
Valid driver’s license
Valid passport
