CB Therapeutics is a biotech focused on the research and development of environmentally-friendly products to improve mental health, increase healthspan, and promote longevity
Our synthetic biology lab is seeking an outstanding Fermentation Technician to support the lab in the preparation and implementation of all fermentation projects. As a member of a growing team, you are responsible for ensuring that experiments are running according to plan so attention to detail is critical and excellent documentation and communication skills are required.
The position is full time with a flexible schedule TBD once duties are assigned. Evenings and weekends will be required as needed.
DUTIES AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Prepares fermentation culture medium and assembles/sterilizes bioreactor equipment
· Carries out microbial fermentations and analyses according to batch records using good sterile technique
· Ongoing utilization and monitoring of fermentation equipment and process control systems to ensure parameters are within specified operating ranges
· Performs routine sampling of fermentations, ensuring accuracy of measurements
· Performs minor mechanical and instrumentation troubleshooting; takes appropriate corrective action as needed
· Completes batch records and enter fermentation data into databases and laboratory notebooks
· Contacts research scientists for guidance in the event of unplanned experimental deviations; follows guidance and direction accordingly
· Completes routine laboratory procedures ensuring accuracy and validity of results and assist with general laboratory procedures such as but not limited to preparation of solvents, buffers, resins, reagent solutions, media prep; measuring and dispensing of solid and liquid chemicals and raw materials (e.g., media & reagents)
· Cleans and sterilizes fermentation equipment, instrumentation, materials and processing areas
· Performs cell culture sterilization techniques
· Executes on various projects as developed by Fermentation Scientists
· Performs other laboratory housekeeping tasks as assigned including routine cleaning of laboratory benchtops and restocking of materials
· Other duties as assigned or required
JOB SKILLS, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
· Candidate must possess a high level of mechanical aptitude, excellent communication, organization and collaborative skills and demonstrate ability to be innovative, troubleshoot complex systems and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and self-directed entrepreneurial environment
· Ability to work independently, set priorities, and make decisions with general guidance and supervision
· Demonstrated ability to prepare buffers, perform serial dilutions, and operate standard lab equipment (e.g., various pipettes, balances, pH meter)
· Ability to resolve problems and communicate status in a timely manner
· Understanding of key scientific terms is preferred (e.g., assays; reagents; flasks; bioreactors; beakers; test tubes; pipets) including an understanding of inorganic chemical nomenclature
· Understanding of basic microbial cell biology preferred
· Ability to perform basic stoichiometric calculations and basic algebra required
· Ability to effectively multi-task in order to meet deadlines and commitments
· Extremely flexible with a positive and "can do" attitude
· Must appreciate and respect the necessity for confidentiality
