Dispatcher

Are you someone who cares about the environment and social justice issues and is looking for a job that will be meaningful and make a difference in peoples’ lives?
Our food recovery nonprofit picks up excess food from businesses and delivers it to multiple nonprofits feeding people throughout Los Angeles County. To help us recover food, we use a combination of staff drivers, volunteers and drivers from the agencies we serve. We track our impact in terms of meals served and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by food we divert from landfills. We’re providing around 60,000 meals a week to food insecure communities in Los Angeles. A new California law SB 1383 requires businesses to donate rather than discard their excess food, and donations are expected to increase as a result.
We’re looking for someone to help us with dispatch, scheduling and logistics. Applicant must be able to communicate with food donors, volunteers and nonprofits picking up food. Will need to plan routes and accommodate cancellations and route changes as necessary. Will be required to facilitate and oversee communications, delivery and reporting throughout the transport process. Also needs to relay information to drivers, donors and our collaborating network of nonprofits.
Requirements
? Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office proficiency and the ability to become expert in the company’s dispatch and digital platforms.
? Must be able to handle incoming calls and problem solve independently
? Desire to work independently and proactively to support the overall team goals.
? Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with the driver and volunteer fleet.
? Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work assignments
? Ability to disseminate and relay information among staff, businesses, receiving agencies and volunteers
? Able to multi-task among handling and routing calls, dispatching, record maintenance, and data handling through apps used for tracking
? Must be available to virtually attend weekly staff meetings and other team meetings as needed
? Fluency in Spanish desirable but not required
